As someone who has recently gone through the experience of taking the GCSE, AS and A Level exams for Spanish, I believe that I will be able to understand pupils' strengths and weaknesses throughout each lesson, and work towards improvement together with the pupils and their parents. Also, I lived in Colombia for over 12 years, and have achieved A* in my GCSE, AS and A Level Spanish Exams, so I will do my best to ensure that the student's understanding and confidence reach high standards, both personally and academically.
As part of the tutoring lessons I have offered in the past, I first ask the pupil what their basic understanding of the subject is, explaining it in a few words. From the second lesson onwards, I ask the pupil to remind me of what we learned in the previous lesson, and give me their own opinion on the topic if appropriate. I then ask the pupil if there is a specific topic they don't understand and make sure to go over it during that lesson, or the next lesson if I feel I need to revise the topic better before explaining it.
I often encourage creativity during sessions, asking the students to draw, write or sing what they remember or understand throughout the lesson in whatever way they feel best. I encourage mind maps, comics, song lyrics and more during the lesson, as each student has a different way of learning and remembering. Moreover, I also encourage discussions and presentations, because this enhances the brain capacity and allows the student to better understand and remember, rather than constantly trying to read over their notes.
At the end of each lesson, I will consider whether it's best to set homework for the student, depending on their schedule, and mine. The homework would be set according to the student's ability, but will aim to stimulate the student's ability every time, challenging their understanding and confidence.
I have been a teaching assistant for various Language and Humanity subjects for the past three years, with student numbers ranging from one-to-one, to 30 students at a time. Because of this, I have become accustomed to a teaching atmosphere over time, developing my patience, personality and teaching techniques around students from year 7 to 13. Previous students have greatly improved their literacy, interest and general understanding of the subject at hand, and many have received grades ranging from Cs to As.
I often offered private tutoring for my classmates at A Level, in subjects such as English, Spanish and Sociology. This allowed me to understand how to work with people of my own age, as well as to expand my knowledge on these subjects by reading ahead in preparation for tutoring and exams. I have assisted students in the improvement of their class participation and confidence, revision and coursework, so that they are able to achieve the best grades possible.
