- Do you have a personal message for students?
Teaching Maths is something I have wanted to do for a long time, so prospective students can be assured that I have bags of energy, patience and enthusiasm. I really enjoy Maths and would consider it a pleasure to help students reach their goals at A level and GCSE.
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have been working as a professional tutor for roughly two years now having retired from my London career in Finance several years ago. So far I have worked with A level, GCSE and some younger students. A few years ago I coached my son to achieve an A grade in A level Maths.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I have an up-to-date Basic Disclosure Certificate. For self-employed independent tutors like myself, this is the only certificate available.
- Where and with whom did you train?
My subject knowledge of Maths is due to some exceptionally good teachers who I was lucky enough to be taught by in my school days. Such was the clarity of their teaching that the fundamentals of Maths have remained with me throughout my life. The Maths component of my degree course in Engineering at Cambridge was also demanding and rigorous.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
I have recently worked with several students at both GCSE and A Level throughout the academic year to help prepare them for summer exams. In some cases, I have been complementing their studies at school or college. In other cases, I have been the student's main teacher.
I have also helped both GCSE and A Level students on a short term basis, typically two to three months, to help improve their Maths in the run-up to exams. In these cases, my tutoring has focused on specific areas of weakness or difficulty to help students overcome specific problems or to fill in knowledge gaps.
Additionally, I also helped a 13 year old pupil prepare for the Maths component of the Tonbridge School (Kent) scholarship exams with successful results.
My son had a series of eight lessons just before his 13+ exam. Jeremy was very organised and prepared a clear timetable of topics so there was a clear plan in place. He prepared ahead of every lesson so that my son could make the most of each session. Jeremy covered the key topics so that there was a solid foundation and then discussed the strategy for the exam, so my son could understand how best to tackle it on the day. Jeremy's tutoring was absolutely invaluable and I would thoroughly recommend him.
Jeremy - just to let you know that Ted got an A* for his A level Maths last summer thanks to your wonderful help - and he's just had an offer from Cambridge, so things are looking good for him. I really appreciated your help with Ted's prep last year. Thank you so much.
