I always start by going through questions that the student got wrong, or if its an essay, I will help to correct their writing technique. Before each lesson I also would have prepared/ found challenging questions on the topic that we are focusing on and try and help them tackle it. I will then re-teach any areas that the student didn't understand in their lesson. At the very end of every lesson we also go over improving exam technique. I rarely set "homework", but if there are any follow-up questions I think would be beneficial, I will ask the student to complete them.
I am a student currently doing my A Levels, and have been tutoring 2 students every week for 6 months now. One of the students I'm tutoring is doing their 11+ this year, and the other is in their first year GCSE's. I teach both Maths and English, and they have both improved by a grade since I've started tutoring them.
