In terms of teaching strategy, I start off with a mini test recapping on what we went over in the last lesson. I then introduce new theory content relevant to the student's level and then go through a worksheet. After working on theory, we move on to practical, which includes learning scales, new pieces, and practising sight reading.
Personally, I went by the exam route of learning piano (ABRSM) for the first two years of playing piano, after which I decided to teach myself any pieces I would like to learn, which I've been doing for the last eight years. This allows me to teach both exam content for the Prep exam and Grade 1, while teaching students how to play by ear and using different resources, including sight reading and YouTube videos.
I am a sixth form student studying Maths, Biology and Chemistry, and am applying to study Medicine. I have taught six students over a period of three years, ranging from 5 to 11 year olds. After studying Music GCSE with Edexcel for three years, I got a 7 (an A grade).
I have had a passion for music from a young age; I have played the piano since the age of seven, and taught myself how to play the guitar when I was 14. This has allowed me to perform in concerts, in a band and at school events. I was also a finalist in the borough's talent competition of 2016.

Perfect! Joanna is a really great tutor. She has been teaching my 6year old for nearly two months now, and he ‘s made very noticeable progress since starting his piano lessons with Joanna, and has taken interest in the subject. It is a pleasure to hear him repeat what he learnt during the lessons. Joanna is very competent , knows and delivers her subject area very well (both theory and practice), and tailors her lessons very well to her client’s learning style. She has also been very professional and reliable. Can’t recommend her enough!
Thank you Meriem. It has been a pleasure to teach.
Joanna has been teaching my 5 year old daughter how to play the piano for nearly a year now. My daughter has made very good progress during this time and is peparing for her first test. She is very patient and explains the theory very simply so that my daughter can pick up the terminology. Her teaching methods of of balancing theory with playing the piano during the lesson keeps my daughter engaged throughout the lesson. Joanna is someone my daughter looks up to and is inspired to play as well as Joanna, she builds really good relationships with her students. Joanna is exceptionally polite and comes across professional all the time. I would highly recommend Joanna as piano teacher.
