- Do you have a personal message for students?
I have been teaching at my home in Stratton, Cirencester since September 2010 and now have a thriving practice. I have a mix of youngsters and mature adults and many have the potential to go on and become professional singers.
It has been very heartening to witness a shy young person walk into my studio and blossom into a confident singer and performer in a short space of time. The confidence they attain spills over into other areas of their lives and I constantly receive emails from parents speaking of their delight as they also witness the transformation of their child into a confident young person.
I decided to mark the beginning of this 2013 by officially giving my teaching practice a name. It will now be known as BelCanto Voice Studio.
Below are some of the achievements of the past 3 years:
Around 50% of students are achieving Distinction in Associated Board singing exams (December 2012 this number was 70%, 7 out of 10 students gaining Distinction).
The first year of entering my students into Cheltenham Festival of Performing Arts (2012), 3 of them achieved Silver Medals.
In September 2012 one youngster was selected for the National Finals of the First News Diamond Kids competition and another was awarded a place at the Prestigious Italia Conti School of Theatre in Newbury. In the second year of entering the Cheltenham Festival of Performing Arts (2013) there was one gold medal and 6 silver medals and this year (2014), 8 of my students received awards: one cup, 2 gold medals, 2 silver medals and 3 bronze medals. This is quite a record for a small singing practice, new to the area! Roll on 2015!!
Former students have gained places at the Royal Academy of Music and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have been a solo performer for over 20 years and have appeared on the international stage in concert and opera. I studied at the Royal Northern College of Music where I was awarded the Freckleton Prize for Singing. I appeared as soloist throughout Europe and North America in opera and concert. Recent highlights include the Royal Opera at Covent Garden (Aspasia in Mitridate) and the Rossini in Wildbad Festival in Germany (Countess, Le Comte Ory). I have appeared extensively in concert and toured Europe with Marc Minkowski and Les Musiciens du Louvre singing the Angel in Handel's Resurrection. Recordings include Bellante in Handel's Almira on the CPO label and Countess de Formoutiers in Rossini's Le Comte Ory on the Naxos Label. In January 2009 Almira was featured on the BBC Radio 3 Handel Opera Series to commemorate the 250th anniversary of Handel's death. I have taught privately at home for many years, in 3 Independent schools (including Rendcomb College and Beaudesert Park School locally), for a County Arts Support Service and at the Midlands Academy of Dance and Drama. Pupils have gone on to study at music conservatoires (Royal Academy of Music and Guildhall School of Music and Drama) and to perform in the West End. In 2002 I co-founded Foxroe Artist Management and went on to represent 40 international artists including singers, conductors and instrumentalists. I have had artists performing in all of the major UK opera houses and with large organisations such as the Raymond Gubbay promotions. Artists appeared at the Proms in the Royal Albert Hall and on radio and television.

Our daughter Chloe (aged 10) has been studying with Linda for just over a year and is studying for her Grade 3 ABRSM, following a Distinction in her Grade 2 exam earlier this year. We cannot praise Linda highly enough for the way in which she has given Chloe the confidence and ability to achieve what she has in the last year through her expert tuition and guidance. She has just made it through to the regional final of the First News Diamond Kids talent competition and the last 12 of over 1,000 entrants".
Linda has a very friendly and approachable tutoring style which clearly suits Chloe perfectly and she has a remarkable ability to inspire confidence and bring out the best in her. Whilst the dramatic improvement in Chloe's singing has been wonderful to witness, it has been equally rewarding to see Chloe having such fun".
My daughter Isabel (age 13) started weekly singing lessons with Linda Gerrard in November 2010. We are delighted with the progress she has made and she was recently awarded a distinction in Grade 3 ABRSM. Linda has exactly the right approach. She is clearly passionate and motivated with a sense of fun and informality. This, coupled with her knowledge and experience make her the perfect choice for Isabel. I would not hesitate in recommending Linda as a wonderful teacher".
