LLM Laws Distinction (UCL) and LLB Laws First Class Honours (Exeter); specialising in all core undergraduate subjects, essays and exams

Methodology

I teach people who want to get a solid understanding of foundation level law, as well as those wanting to achieve First Class at undergraduate level, or Distinction at postgraduate level.

Before any lesson, we have to discuss where you feel your weakness is, and where we need to focus our attention. Whether it be your essay style, comprehension of case law or how to get the best results in your exam, each lesson will be bespoke for you.

Although I expect high standards of myself and of my students, I am a very easy person to get along with. I endeavour to make lessons interesting and may be even fun, sometimes.

Experience

I have tutored students from 6 years old, all the way up to undergraduate level at the best universities in London and Australia.

In terms of my subject expertise, I focus mainly on politics and law. All of my students have either passed their desired course, or jumped up a level in their end of year grades.

Finally, for anyone planning to qualify as a lawyer in the UK, or internationally, I have first hand experience of successfully gaining vacation scheme spots from the highest grossing firms in the world.

Tutoring Work Experience

ITAS Tutor, Law/Politics, Apr 2017 - Aug 2018, University of Melbourne
I taught undergraduate students of The Indigenous Tutorial Assistance Scheme, which provides funding to employ qualified tutors to assist with higher education studies. I met students on a regular basis - more if it was exam month - and focused on honing in essay writing skills.

KS2 Private Tutor, English, November 2015 – Present, London
I was referred to a family who required an after school English tutor. My main role is to improve the student’s literacy, in particular, their essay writing skills. I review homework set by the school and enhance
comprehension skills with reading exercises.

Undergraduate Advisor, Law, Politics, International Relations, May 2014 – Present, London
Throughout my LLM, I have offered guidance to undergraduate students on a casual basis. From essay
planning, writing and editing, to law firm and postgraduate university applications, I have been enthusiastic in passing on the knowledge I have already gained. I have also advised on careers in the European Union and non-law careers in financial service firms. One student has successfully gained a training contract in a
regional firm.

GCSE Peer Tutor, History, September – March 2010, Kent
I tutored two students preparing for their GCSEs. We reviewed and discussed what they had learned in class
and set writing tasks to aid solitary revision. They both achieved an A grade.

KS2 Maths Outreach, Maths, April – June 2008, Kent
Along with another student and teacher, I mentored a small group of year 6 students who excelled in maths.

KS2 Private Tutor, 11+, September – November 2007, Kent
I set learning goals and went through 11+ past exam papers. The student successfully entered a grammar
school.

Legal Work Experience

Legal Intern, TomTom International Head Office, January 2015, Amsterdam
I worked in the business solutions arm of the legal department which dealt with license contracts. I drafted
legal documents and flagged license risks to be assessed by compliance. I was encouraged to continue
interning at the company.

Vacation Scheme, Latham & Watkins, June – July 2014, Singapore
I was invited to join the US law firm’s Asian hub in lieu of a training contract assessment. I contributed to the
closing of a syndicated loan agreement deal, proofread contracts and drafted a memorandum. I worked in a
highly pressured environment dealing with an international market and client portfolio.

Work Experience, Slater & Gordon Solicitors (formerly Russell Jones & Walker), July 2010, London
My responsibilities in the employment department included drafting letters to clients, researching and
presenting a point of law, and note-taking in client meetings. I was offered an opportunity for further work
experience.

Work Experience, Keene Marsland Solicitors, June 2008 – 2010 (one week/annum), Kent
This annual work experience resulted in my involvement with family, land and tax law matters. My tasks varied from acting as a clerk in the County Court, to testing and reviewing the use of new court forms and
procedures.

Lalaine was great, as she was really patient with me and helped me understand things I found difficult before. She went the extra mile and helped me to develop my own way of thinking to reach my goal successfully.

David

Had a great experience receiving tuition from Lalaine in Melbourne. Extremely diligent in her approach and thoroughly helpful with regard to sourcing additional reading material. Very easy going and clear when it comes to defining what she can and cannot deliver. Drop her a line, you wont be disappointed!
