London based music practitioner and teacher, specialised in working with SEN children

Methodology

I have always taken a holistic approach to clarinet tutoring, whereby I try to make my students passionate about playing and helping them express themselves through music, rather than just learning with the aim of passing music exams.
Where they wished to do music exams I have tailored the lessons to their needs and helped them succeed.

For me playing is about connecting, communicating and expressing yourself in a safe, non-judgmental environment and I want to give my students the chance to learn an instrument, but most importantly to have fun and relax even if they only play during the lesson.

Experience

I studied Music in Goldsmiths, University of London (specialising in performance, teaching and psychology of music), from which I graduated in 2017. I subsequently began working as an SEN Teaching Assistant in a primary school in west London. I specialised in working with children with ASD, and stayed there for two years, working in year 6 in my first year and Reception in my second year, where I also gained knowledge and experience working in Early Years.

I'm also studying on the Sounds Of Intent PGCert course with prof. Adam Ockelford and am also doing an Interactive Music Making training with Music as Therapy charity to to use music with Early Years.

I have 5 years experience teaching clarinet and 2 years experience teaching and working with children with additional needs.

I am a musician, music tutor and music practitioner, with particular interest in working with children and adults with learning difficulties.
As a musician I have experience in orchestral playing, chamber music, and solo. I play Bb clarinet, A clarinet, tenor saxophone and bass clarinet. I enjoy playing many different genres, and have experience including classical, contemporary classical, pop, jazz and klezmer. I currently play in the London Gypsy Orchestra (clarinet) and London based Balkan folk band “ShunTA!” (tenor saxophone).

As a music tutor I have taught clarinet privately and entered my students in ABRSM examinations. I also have experience in primary school teaching having worked full time as a teaching assistant.
I am currently working as a freelance music practitioner doing music workshops for children with learning disabilities. I'm studying on the Sounds Of Intent PGCert course with prof. Adam Ockelford and I am also doing the Interactive Music Making training with Music as Therapy, to use music with Early Years. Music can impact the learning of children and adults in many ways: I want to become someone who can actively use Music as both source of focus and pleasure for individuals with learning difficulties, and I want employ it effectively to promote wider learning, and help create an inclusive and accessible environment where this can happen.

I aspire to become a music therapist I and am passionate about community music and leading group musical workshops. I believe in an approach to music that is inclusive and participatory, both therapeutically and educationally. In my opinion music should be used as an effective tool to combat illness, disability, isolation, education difficulties, behavioural problems, offending and many more issues.

Experience
Music Practitioner, freelance. September 2018 - present
I lead music workshops and private sessions (both group and 1:1) with children from Early Years to teenagers. My workshops are aimed to help develop language, motor, social and emotional skills. I want the children to have fun and give them a chance to express themselves and relax.

Teaching assistant, St Peter’s C of E Primary School, Chippenham Mews, London W9 2AN — September 2017- July 2018
I have worked 1-on-1 with autistic students in year 6 and Reception, working with them every day, meeting their academic and social aims in preparation (in the case of the student in year 6) for both SATs examinations and secondary school. This placement has helped me gain experience relating myself to children with communication difficulties. I have constantly met the challenge to find creative and alternative ways of explaining subjects and face social situations. I developed skills to understand what the students need when they are unable to communicate how they feel. Moreover I led extra-curricular music workshops with KS2 children where we explored expressing oneself through music and playing together using both singing and percussion instruments.

I helped Prof. Ockelford teach music to children with severe autism. He would play piano with the students and I would accompany on clarinet or voice.

Wildlife volunteer, Elephant Nature Park in Mae Taeng Distric, Thailand - August 2016
We helped take care of the hosted rescued elephants: bathing them, harvesting and preparing their food, cleaning barns, and planting trees in the reserve.
