I am a patient and empathetic teacher who understands that each individual learns in different ways. I’m happy with explaining the same concepts in a variety of ways to suit a student’s stage of learning, style and ambitions. I’m experienced in a range of musical styles, mainly focused around jazz and popular but I have experience in others styles as well. My goal is for my students to gain knowledge and an understanding of their instrument and have fun whilst doing it.
I am a musician and composer (BA hons professional musicianship, Bass) with 13 years experience, starting with electric bass, and for the last six years focusing on the double bass. I am currently based in South London, following five years on the music scene in Brighton, gigging regularly on the double bass with various artists, at venues and festivals such as London's Roundhouse, 2000 trees festival and the Isle of Wight festival. My main focuses on the double bass are the art of walking bass and arco bass (playing with the bow), both are instrumental to crafting your own musical approach as well as improving your understanding of harmony and technique. I also have a keen interest and knowledge in music history, theory and ethnomusicology - the music of the Middle East, West Africa and Cuba have been my main areas of interest. I also take great interest in classical music.
