I like classes to be goal-focused but relaxed and fun. I work with professional actors on audition-specifics, I have a great record on coaching for drama school entry, and I'm an experienced LAMDA teacher. Sessions are bespoke, and may employ a range of practices always with the aim of authenticity, truth, charisma and confidence.
I've been teaching for twenty years, during which time I've also worked as an actor, producer, theatre director, playwright and film director. I've worked in the West End and internationally.
For ten years, I was the education director at the Rose Theatre Kingston. I've also directed at a number of top drama schools. Altogether, I've taught hundreds of students and mentored dozens of professionals, many of whom are now award-winning, prolific artists.
I don't adhere to a particular practice, but believe that a range of tools can be used in an investigative approach to get the very best out of the actor.
I've worked on both sides of the table, with equal passion. Whatever stage you're at in your acting, I can help you hone your work.
My rate of £40ph is based on a booking of a single one-to-one session. For drama school entry, I strongly recommend three 90 min sessions which I offer as a package for £150.
I can offer classes at my home, or at yours. If in a hired space, the venue cost must be paid by the client. If outside London, travel costs may be added.

Outside my work, I love film, theatre and a wide range of music. I’m a member of the Tate and British Library, and I go to museums and galleries whenever I can. As well as enjoying the city, I’m a keen walker and cyclist, with an interest in wildlife. I own a paddle-board and have been known (occasionally) to take it out on the Thames. I am an experienced scuba-diver and skier.
I received a CELTA qualification from International House, London, and taught English as a foreign language for several years during my acting career.
I have a full, clean driving licence and a car.
Under Ciaran’s leadership the Rose now has over 1,000 young people actively involved in the power that theatre can bring to people’s lives. This has been transformational to all of those who have been involved whether from students who have grown their confidence and exceeded their academic goals to individuals who have got into the leading drama schools and onwards to highly successful professional careers. Robert O’Dowd (Rose CEO)
In all the years I've been doing drama and performing, I have never once had a teacher or director give such generous and helpful criticism and advice. Ciaran’s emphasis on prep I found the most incredible and enabling process, transforming acting and drawing out the personal truth in every performance. Ciaran made it clear that we were all equally important and that he had invested the same amount of time, energy and care into all of us. I really felt he had taken the time to get to know us all as the feedback was so accurate and truly helpful in so many ways. Amy Kennedy (student)
Ciaran is an enormously experienced and inspiring teacher. He has trained so many young actors, many of whom have gone on to pursue acting professionally. As well as having great technical knowledge he has the energy and charisma to share his love and passion for the theatre with his students.
I have had the pleasure of working with Ciaran on two productions at the Rose Theatre, Kingston. Both shows have incorporated the Rose Theatre's Youth Theatre Company working with professional actors like myself. Ciaran's approach to his students of all ages is supportive, detailed, instructive and impactful. He treats his charges with the utmost respect and his unique skill enables his students to stretch their boundaries and discover - and then experience - the breadth of their capabilities. I have had the privilege of seeing his teaching style first hand - simultaneously witnesssing the esteem in which all his students hold him - and therefore recommend Ciaran without reservation.
Ciaran is a very talented writer, director, and actor with many years of professional experience on and behind the stage. He is also a particularly skilled tutor. I have a recreational interest in acting and I found that his considered instruction really helped my confidence in performing in front of people. I have also seen many of the stage productions he has directed and based on the quality of their acting I can recommend him at the professional level as well. Whether you are pursing acting as a hobby or a career your craft will improve. I strongly recommend working with Ciaran.
I know Ciaran from his time as Director of Learning and Participation at the Rose Theatre. My son was fortunate enough to work with Ciaran during the Rose Christmas Shows, which Ciaran wrote and directed.
Ciaran is an incredible Director and teacher. He has an astonishing ability to connect with young people and to help them to learn and grow. The Youth Theatre students he works with adore him. He treats his students with respect, does not patronise, expects the highest of standards and he creates a safe environment where they can feel confident to stretch into their full potential.
I have seen the Rose Young Company in rehearsals with Ciaran and know that they have enormous fun along the way, whilst maintaining high levels of professionalism, discipline and hard work. The standard of performance he achieves as a Director and a tutor are outstanding.
Ciaran knows his craft, understands the industry and knows the life of an actor - warts and all. You could not find a better tutor if you are looking to improve your auditioning skills, play-writing skills, up your chances of getting into Drama school, ace that GCSE / A Level performance piece or if you are looking for advice and support on how to survive as a working actor. He will be in very high demand as a tutor.
Ciaran is an insightful, caring and talented tutor, who is skilled at getting the best out of his students.
