My teaching method is holistic and aims to cover more than simply learning songs and technique. I am very keen on developing the interests of my students, creating a sense of musicality within their playing (from beginner to more experienced players) and most importantly making the music exciting!
I am both experienced in teaching beginners and in teaching people who already have a basic knowledge of the bass/double bass but want to develop their improvising or Jazz-specific playing. My methodology initially starts with learning by ear as I believe this is the most musical and enjoyable way to start learning an instrument, but I am also a proponent for students learning to read music and understand theory if that is something they desire.
I am a young musician based in London, specialising in Jazz and improvised music. I am a student on the BA(Bmus) Jazz course at Trinity Conservatoire of music and regularly play gigs around London with various groups and ensembles. I have been teaching private lessons for over 3 years now, and also have experience working as a music teacher/teaching assistant in a primary school so I am comfortable teaching all ages (and complete beginners!)
My background and specialism is largely in Jazz and improvised music, but I am also comfortable teaching other styles such as R&B/soul, rock and pop. I am also comfortable teaching music theory and harmonic/composition concepts to my students, whether they already have some prior knowledge in that department or whether they have no experience with that side of the music. I can use my experience of playing various styles of music, composing and regularly performing live to tailor my lessons to the specific desires of the students.
