I am a friendly, experienced tutor of ESOL and French offering a highly personalised service. Every course I offer is tailored to the individual student(s), with regular progress and learning objective reviews.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
EFL/ESOL and French, as well as Essay Writing for students of GCSE age and up.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I have a First Class BA in French Studies and an MA in French and Francophone Studies, both from the University of Warwick. I also hold the Cambridge CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) and the PTLLS (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector) qualifications.
I am happy to provide original copies of my certificates on request.
- How much do you charge?
Your first session is free - it's an opportunity for you or your child to get to know me, and to have a taste of my course content and teaching style before you commit to working together.
If you decide to go ahead, sessions are priced at £30 pounds per hour and are available in personally-tailored packages of ten. As each package comes to an end, we will have a feedback session on the learning objectives set at the outset, the course content, and my teaching methods and style, and you can decide whether you would like to purchase another package.
Usually, children and GCSE/A-Level students opt for ten one-hour sessions, bringing the total cost of each package to £300. Adults often prefer longer sessions of ninety minutes, making the cost of their package £450. These timings are entirely up to you, however, and I am happy to work with you to meet your needs on this front.
There are no extra costs for travel.
- Where do you teach?
I am based in South-East London, and am willing to travel to students' homes anywhere in the city.
- When are you available?
Please contact me to arrange a suitable time.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach all ages from 11 to adults.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
GCSE and A-Level French.
Support at all levels with academic essay writing.
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I am happy to arrange sessions over Skype. I am also happy to use email and Skype to work with Essay Writing students.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
I genuinely love what I do - I'm a huge language geek (the sort of person who gets embarrassingly excited about grammar) who has made a career out of sharing languages and cultures with people at home and abroad. I truly believe that understanding other languages and cultures is one of the most mind-broadening things we can do, and take a great pride and pleasure in helping my students to achieve this in a way that they enjoy.
Do be in touch - I look forward to meeting you!
- What kind of experience do you have?
I worked as a tutor of EFL/ESOL and French in London for two years before spending a year teaching EFL at a private language school in China.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I do not have DBS as yet, though I shall be applying for it in the near future.
- Where and with whom did you train?
My academic qualifications are from the University of Warwick; my CELTA and PTLLS are from Ealing, Hammersmith and West London College.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
I have just finished a year teaching ESL in a private language school in Chengdu, China. My students were aged from 9 years old to adults, and were studying towards a wide range of goals, from national examinations to the IELTS/TOEFL tests; from improving their employment prospects with Business English courses to learning for personal development.
One of the best parts of my job is building strong relationships with my students based on mutual respect and interest in the subject we are learning together, so I miss them already! However, I am very much looking forward to meeting and working with new students in my home country.
