I have had over 10 years experience of teaching classical piano and music theory willing to help anybody from beginner to advanced in an encouraging and positive environment.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach classical piano and music theory.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I studied at the Royal College of Music and the Royal Northern College of Music having had 3 years intense pedagogical training as part of my undergraduate degree. I am also a prize winner of both institutions.
- How much do you charge?
1 hour = £40
45 minutes = £35
The first lesson is at a special rate of £30
- Where do you teach?
I visit the homes of students though I do also teach from my home in Surrey. I work in central London and am able to teach anywhere in zones 1 - 3 and further out depending on the exact location.
- When are you available?
Available during term time as well as the school holidays. I am able to teach between 11am and finishing at 9:30pm though this can also be flexible if necessary.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach all ages at all levels.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
All ABRSM piano and theory grades along with Trinity Guildhall
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I am able to offer tutor sessions for theory up to grade 5 via skype.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
Feel encouraged and inspired. Anybody can take up the piano and gain enormous enjoyment from it. It is just a matter of knowing how to practise, mixed with only a little time and patience. For the more advanced student, with the right guidance you can easily increase the efficiency of your practice and achieve results faster, along with time and dedication.
- What kind of experience do you have?
I now have over ten years experience of private piano teaching having taught levels from complete beginner to advanced and people of all ages from four years old to 70! I have prepared many people for exams and a few years ago achieved the second highest mark in the country for grade 2 piano. I also taught Alistair McGowan between 2014 and 2016!
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
- Where and with whom did you train?
I studied at the Royal College of Music and the Royal Northern College of Music with Roger Vignoles and Dina Parakhina and have knowledge of Russian methods and styles of teaching.
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
Incorporated Society of Musicians (ISM)
- Tell me about some of your current students.
I currently teach a whole family of students in London all having one hour lessons. It is particularly interesting especially as the mother has learnt alongside her two sons and she is able to have a deeper understanding of how her children are learning and is therefore more easily able to help them overcome problems they might be having. It is also fascinating to see how the two boys compete with one another and how it is actually possible to use this to help them progress further.
