- What kind of experience do you have?
Although primarily a flautist, I have been giving private piano lessons for over 23 years. Whenever possible, I have attended ABRSM training days for piano teachers and training on the AB exam process. I am a busy freelance musician and perform regularly (flute) in various orchestras and ensembles (occasionally as soloist) and give occasional solo flute/piano recitals. I have performed as soloist with Edinburgh Chamber Orchestra, Dunblane Chamber Orchestra, Dunbar Choral Society orchestra and will be a soloist with Ensemble Alba in Sep 2018. I have played flute with Glasgow-based Amicus Orchestra since 2011, as well as being on the committee for Amicus. Since 2010, I have been invited as flautist-in-residence every year for the Piano Accompaniment course at the Sherborne Summer School of Music (tutored by Nigel Hutchison, piano accompanist for the Yehudi Menuhin School) and have gained valuable insights for my own piano teaching while working as a soloist on the course.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Yes (from 2012). I also have an NSPCC certificate in Child Protection Awareness (from 2011).
- Where and with whom did you train?
I trained for my BMus (Hons) at Sheffield University, with flute lessons from Paul Chapman (Opera North) and piano lessons with various university tutors. Later I trained on flute with Stina Bisengaliev (Opera North), Catherine O'Rourke (Highland Chamber Orchestra) and for over 10 years with David Nicholson (Scottish Chamber Orchestra, RSAMD/RCS tutor). More recently I have had lessons with Paul Edmund-Davies (London Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonia etc.), Alison Mitchell (Scottish Chamber Orchestra) and Joanna Shaw (Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Scottish Ballet). I have also participated in flute master-classes with William Bennett, Lorna McGhee and Katherine Bryan.
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I am a Fellow of the Royal Schools of Music and a member of the British Flute Society.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
Among my current students are a 5 year-old beginner pianist who is learning for fun, a 15 year old working for his school practical exam at around Grade 3 level a 13 year old pianist working for his AB Grade 4 exam. I have a number of very talented/hard-working young students who have achieved exceptionally high distinction marks at Grades 1-3 (two pupil gained 144/150 marks for Grade 1). The majority of my piano pupils taking AB exams pass with distinction or merit. I never rush through the early stages, preferring to ensure a solid basic technique before approaching exams.

Lynne is a wonderful teacher: friendly, patient and dedicated. I got in touch with her after teaching myself on and off for a year or so. She quickly tailored her teaching to my level. Each lesson was a pleasure and I would have no hesitation recommending her.
I am delighted to have Lynne as my tutor and feel privileged to have found her. She is kind, considerate, encouraging and inspiring and I am making good progress. As I work full-time, the fact that Lynne travels to me is also a plus factor.
