- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach maths, physics and essay writing. I also run some 11+ groups from time to time. In addition to teaching content, I focus particularly on trying to change how my students learn, aiming to provide them with the kind of education and encouragement I would want for my own children. Not that I actually do provide that for my own children, of course; I'll be looking for some other sucker to tutor those little monkeys.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I hung around Cambridge till they gave me a couple of degrees to go away, then repeated the trick at Oxford a few years later. I've therefore acquired a bachelors in physics, masters in both history/philosophy and also theology, and a doctorate in theology. Which displays either diverse interests or an inability to stick at anything. My wife suggests the latter.
- How much do you charge?
I charge £10 per hour for classes and £20 per hour for small group sessions. I rarely do one-to-one now, as it's not cost effective for parents/tutees, but they would be £60 per hour were I to run them.
- Where do you teach?
I teach classes at the Victoria Centre in Gravesend and groups out at my house in Higham.
- When are you available?
Classes are after school during the week (1630-1830) and groups are at weekends.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I generally teach GCSE, A-level and IB, but do some 11+ tuition also.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
Principally A-level/IB and GCSE in maths and physics. The essay writing groups help with humanities, clearly, and the 11+ groups prepare students for . . . er . . . the 11+.
- What kind of experience do you have?
I've been a teacher and tutor for over 30 years and feel I'm just about getting the hang of it now.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
As a teacher, I have an enhanced CRB from the old days and also one of the new DBS.
My rates vary but start at £10 per hour for classes.
I've been teaching for about 30 years and tutoring for longer. I aim to give my students more (and hopefully better) options in their future by teaching them how to learn more effectively. That's the fun of teaching.
Doctorate (Theology: Oxford)
Masters (Theology: Oxford)
Masters (History and Philosophy of Science: Cambridge]
Bachelors (Physics: Cambridge)

Dr Mullins was my teacher throughout my A-Levels for Physics, and my Maths tutor outside of school. I can confidently say that I would not have got into Cambridge University if it wasn't for all of the support Dr M provided me with over these years.
Dr M is an excellent teacher, teaching not only the subject matter, but also how best to learn, revise and tackle exams. This is aided by the fact that Dr M genuinely cares for his students, getting to know how each individual learns most efficiently. This produces a learning environment which is more of a group of friends learning together than a classroom of people forced to learn.
Mr M is an amazing tutor - and that statement does not do his tuition justice.
He doesn't just shove maths down your throat, instead he attempts to change the way you think about learning. It's through this you yourself recognise where your weaknesses truly are.
He did this to me and it moved my maths grade up from a C at AS to an A at A-level, and without him coercing me to his way of thinking about my studies, I probably would have got a C at A-Level. In fact it's the things that he teaches outside of the maths, with regards to 'how' to study rather which also helped me get two more A grades in my other A-Levels. His method of teaching is also really useful for university, which is why he is amazing at his craft.
Personally, I think he's the best - with his main mantra putting me back on track to achieve some solid grades at A-Level. (If you go to him - he will say it like 5000000 times in a two hour session).
Thank you Mr M.
Mark taught me for both Maths and Physics A Level some 10 years ago and I can conclusively say he had a huge impact on my grades, work ethic and general enjoyment of the subjects. Highly recommended.
