About the lesson

I am a newly graduate student from Canada, and I am a very passionate teacher in Violin and Piano. I enjoy teaching all age groups and to different levels of interests whether it's for serious or casual students.

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

I teach Violin to all ages, as well as Piano, Music Theory, and Ear Training.

- Tell me about your qualifications.

I completed my Bachelor of Music in Canada, where I am originally from studying at the Dalhousie University. I further studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London, graduating with a Master of Arts with Distinction and a Teaching Licentiate Diploma.

During my studies back in Canada, I obtained a Violin and Piano Diploma as well as diplomas in Music Theory, Music History from the Royal Conservatory of Music.

- How much do you charge?

My usual rate for all my teaching subjects is £30 for an hour. If I am travel to a home, I do charge a small fee for travel which varies depending on the location of the home. If it is a group lesson, I charge £30 for student. If it is a family group lesson, I would not charge for each student so it would be £30.

- Where do you teach?

I prefer to come to my students' homes to teach, and I can travel to any part of Greater London. In September, which is I would like to start teaching, I will be living in West Hampstead.

- When are you available?

As a newly graduate starting in September, my weeks are flexible. Holidays are not a problem for me, and if missed I would make up for the lessons.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

I teach all levels to all ages.

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?

I can prepare for ABRSM exams, school auditions, and orchestra auditions.

- Do you have a personal message for students?

Learning a musical instrument is not just a skill or a hobby, but a part of who you are. By learning how to play an instrument, you are learning about yourself and how you can teach and push yourself. To start from nothing and to see yourself develop is something to be proud of. But, like with anything, you not only have to love music but you have to love yourself doing it.

About Mark

- What kind of experience do you have?

Back in Canada, I was a teacher at the Canadian Conservatory where I had 6 students, all of which were different ages and different musical interests. My background is of course Classical, but I have taught Fiddle Music. I also taught privately, and had group Music Theory lessons. I also am a very keen chamber musician, so I can give chamber music coachings. I have an extensive experience with orchestral playing, teaching orchestral music is also possible. I have won various scholarship prizes and provincial competitions from the age of 6.

In London, I have won several competitions within the Royal Academy and have lead orchestras with various guest conductors. I have also worked with the London Symphony Orchestra as part of a Scheme for violin students. I have performed in various countries outside the UK such as Italy, Norway and Germany, and performed both solo recitals and chamber concerts. In July 2012, I represented the Royal Academy and travelled to New York City to perform at the Lincoln Center Festival.

- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

I have applied for the DBS check, and awaiting it soon.

- Where and with whom did you train?

I have studied with Philippe Djokic in Canada, and in London with Lydia Mordkovitch and Maureen Smith. I have also worked with well established artists such as Maxim Vengerov and Gyorgy Pauk.

- Do you belong to any professional organisations?

I am associated with the Royal Academy of Music, as well as various orchestras such as the LSO and RPO.
