My teaching method
I am a Scottish guitarist and guitar and bass guitar teacher who has over 8 years teaching experience across Scotland, China and the USA.
I have a passion for music and really enjoying teaching guitar as I believe that it is a very interesting skill. I have developed my own set of teaching methods which have been very successful across all age groups and levels. I have experience teaching both individual and group lessons, from beginner to advanced and bass guitar lessons to beginners and intermediates. For all levels I have a block set of techniques and songs that I have developed in relation to Grades 1-8, I can prepare my students for exams using both electric and acoustic guitar Grades. Although if preferred I am happy to use and recommend books where we can work through or a mixture of both. For beginners, I have developed guitar-based games that ensure that pupils are having fun whilst they are learning and encourage them to improve each lesson. I tailor my lessons based on the individual and ensure that my pupils go at their own pace and enjoy learning and challenging themselves during my lessons; I can adapt my teaching style and use alternative methods to help pupils having difficulty.
I have played guitar for over 16 years at 6 years old and began teaching at my school when I was 14 years old, where I set up a guitar club in the school to help primary school children, secondary school children and children with support needs, the opportunity to learn how to play the guitar and bass guitar.
I currently attend the University of Stirling where I am undergoing my Masters in Sports Management, I have previously graduated from the University of Strathclyde Glasgow with an honours degree in Marketing and a degree in Business law.
During my five years working within Glasgow, I have worked in a number of projects, including teaching guitar (acoustic, electric and 12-string), bass guitar, music marketing, song writing, band formation and musical groups with people with support needs. After my gaining experience with people with support needs, I travelled to the USA to work in at Camp Albrecht Acres, a special needs summer camp in Dubuque, Iowa. I had worked there for two summers, as a general counsellor and music co-ordinator. In the summer of 2015, I worked in a marketing role in Beijing for the UK government where I was involved in marketing projects, some involved with music marketing. In 2016 I moved to Guangzhou, China to live for one year, as a foreign English, marketing and music teacher for the British Council. During my time in Guangzhou I taught over 700 children. I also worked for community-based music charity helping people over 16 years old develop musician’s musicianship and performance skills. I was involved in Human resources, marketing and helping to develop song writing and guitar skills of the musicians that we represented.
