I am a Philosophy and Literature graduate with an MA in Creative Writing from Royal Holloway. I am currently tutoring whilst writing my first novel.
Working with students on creating quality fiction, developing academic essay structures and furthering text analysis abilities, I like to foster a serious passion for the process. My thoughts being that proper tutoring should be an exciting developmental process rather than a cold academic slog!
I have been working with students for the past three years, primarily helping them acclimatise to the expectations associated with university level work as opposed to what they have been taught at school.
I find that over the course of a few months, simply going over what is required in layman's terms can help most student's improve not only their grades, but their general understanding the writing process greatly.
Recently I have also begun editing professional fiction manuscripts and have industry knowledge to impart to those interested in the realm of creative writing. I can also recommend reading lists for those who need, or are interested in expanding their knowledge of a subject area.
Excellent! I organised with Josef through Super Prof to come along and help my daughter with her last year of A Level Philosophy. Josef was great, able to explain a complex subject in more understandable terms, through the use of examples and discussions. He helped guide to her to feeling more confidence in her understanding and ability to achieve a good result. Josef was always punctual, polite and interesting to talk to. I would definitely recommend him.
In class with Josef, I have found the him to be an invaluable resource, with a natural ear for the rhythms of language and a formidable imagination. He sees the scope and potential of a piece of work, and his suggestions for new directions, characters, and scenarios to take it in are always both original and apt. Working with him has helped me tremendously; his criticism is always productive and always fair and he addresses a piece of work on its own terms, never foisting his own aesthetic preferences upon it. He is ambitious for other people and invests time and care into isolating problems in their writing and coming up with creative solutions to them. I cannot recommend him highly enough as a tutor with real intellectual clarity, enthusiasm and integrity.
I am currently an undergraduate English Literature student at the University of East Anglia. During my studies I often found myself needing guidance. Joe is a brilliant Tutor. He understands the intricacies of literary criticism, creative writing and the conventions of academic institutions. Joe stimulates my learning instead of just "telling me the answers". He takes a considerate and useful stance on my ideas/learning, addressing me with personally helpful feedback, as opposed to the platitudes often given in seminar groups and lectures.
