My background has been centered around Health Education in countries, cultures, and sometimes languages different from my own. I have learned to tailor the lessons to the individual or to the group that I'm working with.
Working in such diverse settings has taught me to make my tutoring lessons interactive and diverse. My lessons are guided by where the students' interests lie combined with the necessary material that needs to be covered. I have experience working off of preprepared texts, designing interactive activities and power point presentations.
I have a Bachelors of Science in Nursing from St. Catherine University in the US. After graduation, I spent 2 years working in a rural village in Senegal as a Health Educator. I then worked as a primary health nurse back home for 3 years. Following this, I joined Doctors without Borders and worked as a Health Promotion Office in northern Nigeria for 9 months. These experiences have motivated me to go back to school and pursue a Masters degree in Public Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
I have taught hundreds of students in a variety of group sizes, primarily on how to prevent certain diseases, such as malaria, water-borne illnesses, and lead poisoning. One-on-one, I have taught a dozen people in subjects ranging from English, Basic Computer Proficiency, Health Topics, Anatomy and Physiology, and the American Citizenship Exam.
