I am an undergraduate student who teaches at both GCSE and A level standard.
I focus on practising the skills my pupils are weakest at, through examples and past papers.
I believe the barrier to students achieving in science is their confidence, which I aim to boost by showing them that all problems are achievable through practise.
I am a first year Mathematics and Computer Science student at the University of Durham.
I have been teaching Mathematics and Physics at a GCSE level for approximately 2 years, both privately and as a volunteer.
I am passionate about helping my students to reach their potential in the subjects I love.
I have A*A* in Maths and Further Maths at A Level and AA in Physics and Computer Science at A level.
Secondary School: Earl Mortimer College, Leominster - Achieved 11 GCSE’s all A*/A.
Sixth Form: Hereford Sixth Form College. Achieved A Levels in Mathematics (A*), Further Mathematics (A*), Physics (A) and Computing (A).
University: Durham University, studying in my first year for a Bsc in Mathematics and Computer Science.
Cancer Research UK (5 months, April-September 2018) – While working as a supporter contact advisor with the largest cancer charity within the U.K I was required to have an extensive knowledge of the entire charity in order to effectively support members of the public every day. This often required dealing with controversial or confidential information which I ensured was handled as sensitively as possible. I worked with IT platforms such as the online payment system BT my donate, Trello and Microsoft Excell as well as our supporter engagement management system - Siebel. I pride myself on how efficiently I can manage a daily workload, often far exceeding what was expected of me as temporary worker.
Oxford Tutors (9 months, October 2017- June 2018) – While working as a GCSE mathematics tutor, I was required to organise my own lessons, give marking and feedback. Over my teaching period, I was able to build up trusting relationships with my pupils, and found helping young people to progress and incredibly rewarding experience.
1-2-1 Tutoring (6 months, October 2018 – present) – While studying for my degree, I also volunteer as a Maths and Physics tutor alongside my studies. This program is designed to provide tutoring to pupils from the area who would not be able to afford it privately. This demonstrates just how passionate I am about helping young people achieve their goals.
Student Fundraiser (1 Month, February 2018 – March 2018) – I worked part time alongside my studies on a telephone fundraising project at Durham University’s Alumni Relations office. This job involved calling alumni with the aim of securing donations from them for the university’s Student Opportunities Fund. This job helped to further my communication skills and confidence, and my ability to engage with many diverse types of people.
Service Work (Many Years, Various) - I have over 2 years’ worth of experience working part time in a coffee shop – the job involving team work and providing customer service. I support my experience in waitressing with further part time work at a catering company, and 4 months full time at a restaurant.
