I find teaching is most effective when mutual agreement is reached with students. Sessions need to be educational yet must remain fun and light to keep a student engaged. I always set out clear outcomes which we can expect to cover in a session, with a debrief at the end to check these have been achieved.
I am a medical student based in Cardiff. Originally from Rhondda Cynon Taf. I have excelled academically, with A* grades at GCSE, A grades at A2 level, and a first class BSc honours in Medical Education. I have worked as a youth worker for 10 years.

I am currently studying medicine at Cardiff University. Whilst studying, I am continuing to build my skills to ensure I will graduate with a worthwhile degree and excellent work experience that will stand me in good stead for later life. In school I worked hard for my A-Levels and was delighted with my results. There was a great sense of satisfaction in knowing hard work had paid off. I hope to build on this throughout University.
September 2009 to Present – Engagement Support Officer (ESO) - I currently work 7 hours a week as an ESO for the Youth Service (YEPS) at RCT Council. YEPS provides young people various activities to participate in after school. I work Monday and Wednesday evenings attending sessions with young people. As an ESO, I have to ensure young people stay engaged in activities and remain well behaved. I also have to report issues to my manager as appropriate and communicate with parents/guardians who have any questions or concerns. As part of the job I have attained an OCN level 2 in Youth Work, which has aided me well in understanding young people and ensuring best practices are implemented. Over the past nine years I have received promotions from canteen assistant, to support worker, supervisor and currently as an ESO.
