I provide lessons to students up to GCSE level in Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. I work by focussing on one topic at a time and inviting the student to first tell me what they know before tackling the hurdles that are giving them trouble. For any concept, I am able to derive multiple ways of communicating it in the case that one method doesn't click with the student. I will provide practise questions and worked answers for any area.
I am a Materials Science and Engineering graduate (First class BSc) with over ten years experience working with young people in after-school clubs and academic catch-up classes. Throughout my time at university I have taken the role of a PASS leader (Peer-assissted study session) and helped many younger students raise thier exam and coursework grades.
• Materials Outreach (Armourers STEM Ambassadors)
o Visiting various secondary schools in Manchester with a team of volunteers demonstrating Materials Science-based practicals to promote engineering;
o This involves delivering unprompted general talks on Materials Science topics such as bio-materials and mechanical testing;
o I made simplifications of University level concepts to make them as accessible and interesting as possible for the target age group to great success.
• Volunteer Sunday School Leader
o Leading faith-based activities and lessons for groups of children aged 7 to 11 over the last ten years;
o I prepared lessons and materials for each session in advance whilst also delivering these sessions and managing the groups of children to maximise learning efficiency. I have taken appropriate child safe-guarding courses for this role;
o I have developed increasing experience in adjusting lessons whilst in the process of delivering them depending on the group dynamic in a particular moment.
• PASS Leadership scheme
o Planned weekly educational sessions for first year Materials students with two other students that involve social activities and focussed discussion.
o I have had to adapt my understanding to use logical explanations that suit other students’ learning methods.
o This has bettered my ability to plan structured events in a team based on the needs of others
• Student ambassador (University open days)
o Represented the university as a student ambassador as a part of Materials Science and Engineering university open days to assist potential new undergraduates by answering their questions;
o This allowed me to gain more confidence in my ability to both reassure and encourage new people.
• Inclusions officer for MATSOC Committee
o Tasked with ensuring that all students were informed and made to feel welcome at social events;
o Involved contacting restaurants so that dietary requirements were met and that disabled access was available. Visited first year lectures to present information about upcoming events and recruit new members;
o Committee meetings presented me with a platform to present my ideas for events which were often met with approval from all other committee members whilst also allowing me to listen to and develop others’ proposals into fully fledged plans.

Perfect! Henry is absolutely fantastic. He has the subject specialism and also has a good way of connecting to the children in such a way that enables him to impact them with knowledge of his subjects.
