I believe that as in any other subject, having a good base gives a strong foundation on which to build upon knowledge. That is exactly the way I like to help pupils to learn Mathematics and develop skills for reasoning and grow their confidence.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach Mathematics from KS3 to GCSE and A-level, which includes Core, Statistics, Mechanics and Discrete.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I have a first class Honours degree in Mechanical Engineering, following which I built a long career in a technical and commercial environment, including teaching graduate Engineering trainees.
- How much do you charge?
£20 per hour for KS3 and GCSE
£25 per hour for A-level
- Where do you teach?
I usually teach at the student's home. Areas where I travel to teach include Enfield, Edmonton, Barnet, Camden and Redbridge.
- When are you available?
I usually teach between 4pm and 8.30pm weekday evenings. I also teach on Sundays and during daytime in half term.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
KS3 to A-level, covering all relevant age groups and ability levels.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
Everybody likes to be successful and noticed. The lack of it changes a young person's perspective and he/she often then resigns. If the basics are learnt, automatically there will be success and confidence will return.
- What kind of experience do you have?
I had a very distinctive academic record. After retiring from my previous career, for the last few years I have devoted myself to teaching Mathematics. Many of my students are successfully pursuing University studies. Whilst on the other scale of the spectrum, I have had students who were failing, but with my tutoring were able to significantly improve their grades.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
- Where and with whom did you train?
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
- Tell me about some of your current students.
I have a few students who came to me after scoring very poorly in their mock examinations. With my one-to-one help, all of them have improved enormously, and in the process they have continuously improved their grades.
On the other hand, I have had students who have adapted well with the changing trend of questions and have achieved A* in their GCSEs. They have continued to successfully achieve high marks in their A-level examinations. I also have students who are achieving high Bs in their AS level and are working towards an A for their A2 examinations.
In the current year even with its drastic increase in the grade threshold in GCSEs, most of my GCSE students have maintained their A*s and As.
Furthermore, I have a Year 7 student who is improving continually for the past year, and her end of Year 7 target grade is 5A.
