I have had a love of and enthusiasm for Mathematics since an early age and like to enable others to understand the concepts. The format of lessons I provide will be flexible according to the requirements of the student.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach Mathematics and Statistics.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I have a BSc (hons) in Mathematics, Operational Research, Statistics and Economics from University of Warwick, and an MSc in Statistics from University of Manchester.
- How much do you charge?
After an initial free consultation where we will discuss the student's requirements, I charge £25 per hour.
- Where do you teach?
I visit students' homes around the Wigan, Bolton, Blackrod area although I am happy to travel outside of this vicinity within the Greater Manchester area.
- When are you available?
My working times can be flexible to meet the requirements of students. I am free during daytime and into the evening (Monday to Friday) until 8.30pm, and until 1pm on Saturdays.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach Key Stage 3 and GCSE.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
I believe that Maths doesn't have to be a difficult subject - often it just requires us to look at a problem from a new perspective and once that is identified and fully understood it can be remembered and used. My aim in providing tuition will be to enable the student to see the appropriate perspective.
I am a strong believer in strengthening understanding by solving problems so I will encourage the student to put the concepts to good use.
- What kind of experience do you have?
After completing my degrees I spent 3 years in research at University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology during which time I spent 4 to 6 hours per week providing hands-on assistance to undergraduate maths and statistics students.
I subsequently worked with Mathematics and Statistics for 27 years in the Actuarial area of the Financial Services Industry and so was able to see maths at work in the real world. During this time I provided some informal training to new recruits and team mates, and received good feedback on my ability to explain complex issues in understandable terms.
