« “With Matt, I have learned to sing in different registers and developed my intonation. I have also improved my coordination and the ability to sing and move. He makes the learning curve soft and gradual. Matt is a very encouraging, creative, integrative, direct and positive teacher. As a student I am always in need of new stimuli, as I get bored easily - and learning with Matt is really interesting!” »

Matt - Twickenham - Music

Methodology

You can't sing of life unless you live!

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

I teach singing (non-classical), as well as vocal arranging, ear training, sight-singing, improvisation, or harmony.

- Tell me about your qualifications.

BMus(Hons) Jazz Performance (Voice) from Trinity Laban Conservatoire, PTLLS, IVA Vocal Instructor (in progress)

- How much do you charge?

£45 for a 60-minute session, or £200 for 5 sessions paid in advance.

- Where do you teach?

I prefer to teach at home (TW1), but travelling is negotiable.

- When are you available?

Daytime, evenings and weekends, depending on the time of year. Please ask for futher details.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

I teach all levels, age 12+.

- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.

Skype lessons available. Details can be negotiated.

- Do you have a personal message for students?

Singing is much more learnable than you think. It takes practice, like everything else. But if you have the motivation, then there is absolutely nothing in the way of you becoming a great singer!

Background

- What kind of experience do you have?

8 years of 1-on-1 adult vocal coaching and running various vocal workshops. 2 years of teaching singing and musicianship to groups of adults and young people. I have taught jazz, rock, pop, soul, and musical theatre. I accompany students on the piano. I run 2 choirs (one of them for 5 years), and write arrangements for them. I perform as a percussionist and backing vocalist with one of the top UK samba bands. I am currently working on an Instructor Certificate from the Institute for Vocal Advancement.

- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

Yes (enhanced).

- Where and with whom did you train?

Anita Wardell, Pete Churchill, Ian Shaw, Norma Winstone, Ula Dudziak, Nia Lynn, Naomi Isaacs.

Sahil Suleman, member of The Few vocal group

Matt is a thoughtful, reliable and inspiring musical director. He is able to manage a group of singers whose musical expertise can vary vastly. He constantly strives to bring out the best in us! He also makes the singers in the group feel heard, allowing The Few to feel like a team effort.

Matt is a highly engaging, friendly and above-all, highly talented musical director who makes Monday (when we rehearse) a day to look forward to rather than dread, and I would highly recommend hiring him.
