For 25yrs I've been a pro speaker - presenting on national TV (Travel Show, Wogan, Richard & Judy, other progs) & giving entertaining/motivational speeches. I make 20+ speeches a year to audiences ranging in size from 20 to several thousand people.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach all elements of voice - including Relaxation (and Overcoming Nerves), Breathing, Vocal Projection, Articulation and Connecting with an Audience.
My specialist areas are Presentation and Public speaking. I can help with Wedding Speeches or Global Conferences. I can help you become the speaker you want to be - the humorous entertainer or the speaker with gravitas. I can help you write and deliver your speech.
As a linguist and voice coach, I also love working on accents and have wide experience of helping French, Russian, Chinese and Korean students improve their English accents. I also help non-native speakers to write and deliver speeches in English.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I have an MA in Voice Studies from the Central School of Speech and Drama - and a BA in French from the University of Manchester. I speak fluent French, reasonable Spanish and some Russian.
- How much do you charge?
Public Speaking Coaching and Voice Lessons are £60 per hour from my studio (more if I come to you).
- Where do you teach?
I generally teach five minutes walk from Earls Court. However, I am happy to travel all over the UK for an extra charge.
- When are you available?
Monday to Saturday - occasional Sunday.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I am happy to teach - and have experience of teaching - all levels and all ages. I have taught in Prisons and Young Offenders' Institutes, FE Colleges, State/Private Primary & Secondary Schools, and Community Arts Centres. My present private clients range in age from eight to 77.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
Don't be daunted by that speech or presentation. If you come to me you'll have fun while you learn and discover that speaking to an audience can be enormous fun too. Be prepared to go out of your comfort zone. And if you've ever thought about exploring your voice, get in touch, try it, and release the real vocal you.
- What kind of experience do you have?
In addition to wide presentation experience (which includes Live Outside Broadcasting, Studio/Location Presentation, and regular Serious/Humorous Speeches), I have taught Voice and Speech-Making Skills to Actors, Business People, Pupils at some of the roughest as well as smartest Schools in Britain, male and female Prisoners, Corporate Clients such as Jaguar Land Rover, Charities such as Catch 22, Professional organisations such as the European Speechwriter Network, and members of the Women's Institute. I work in Britain and all over Europe.
My special interests are Presentation, Public Speaking, and Exploring Shakespeare (and Your Voice) by speaking him.
I have wide experience of helping people to overcome public speaking nerves, to assert themselves vocally - and of helping speakers connect with their audience.
I also enjoy combining my own experience of learning languages with voice work that helps students improve their accents.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Yes - I need an up-to-date DBS to work in prisons and schools.
- Where and with whom did you train?
Presenting and public speaking were learnt on the job during 15 years with BBC TV and simultaneous corporate work. I did an MA in Voice Studies in 2010 at the Central School of Speech and Drama and since then have done additional training with Cicely Berry, Barbara Houseman, Kristin Linklater and Nadine George.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
Current students include trainee actors, lawyers, prisoners at two jails (where I work with students on speaking skills) and pupils at state and private schools. I run regular classes at the Lycee Charles de Gaulle, and the London Oratory. Recent corporate clients have included Jaguar Land Rover, Catch 22, PROBUS, The Townswomen's Guild and The Women's Institute. Recent private clients have sought help with Articulation, Projection, Corporate Presentations, Wedding Speeches, Funeral Speeches, Accent Reduction, and Audience Interaction during Classical Music Recitals.
