I am an experienced teacher qualified to teach children with Specific Learning Difficulties/Dyslexia. For the last 16 years I have enjoyed teaching children from many different backgrounds, both in the UK and abroad. More recently, I was a teacher at the Dyslexia Action Learning Centre in Egham before its closure.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I am a qualified dyslexia teacher, providing tuition support for phonics, reading, literacy, study skills, primary maths and handwriting. In addition, I can make a teacher's assessment to devise or review a teaching programme. I am also experienced in teaching children with English as a second language.
My teaching is individually tailored to the needs of the child; students are taught in a structured, step-wise and multisensory way, building confidence as they reach achievable learning goals. Many children have experienced stress from learning in a school setting, so I foster a trusting relationship between myself and the child. I aim to create a safe learning environment, without fear of failure, and use recognised teaching programmes such as Alpha to Omega (adapted to the needs of the child).

- What kind of experience do you have?
I have been working with children needing support in phonics, literacy, early maths, reading and handwriting for almost 25 years. For the last 16 years, I have specialised (as a qualified teacher) for children with dyslexia. One of my children is dyslexic so I well understand the impact it can have on the child and his or her parents. Individual & focused tuition is recognised as having an important role in assisting struggling children, and it is very rewarding to see my students master their reading and spelling and gain confidence in themselves.
I also teach Key Stage 3 & 4 Study Skills.
