Having previously taught GCSE Chemistry while an A-level student, I have a good understanding of the importance of memory tricks and clear explanations, and walk step-by-step with my students to ensure they confidently understand the subject, and are equipped to tackle exam questions.
I'm a big believer in acronyms, rhymes and other fun memory tricks which help the information to stick, but aren't a bore!
I also encourage you to ask questions! We'll walk through different aspects of the course to ensure you have a clear understanding of how the body works from A-Z as this often results in you being able to confidently approach difficult exam questions by taking it back to basics!
I'll regularly summarise what we've learnt and give practise questions to test how your improving!
I'm positive, encouraging and supportive.. but use this encouragement to push you to achieve the bet you can! Picking up good learning techniques at this point can influence your learning far into the future! (You can apply the techniques we use to your other subjects too!)
I have a degree in pre-clinical medicine from the University of St Andrews (renowned for being outstanding at teaching anatomy), and am now studying the clinical side of my medical degree at the University of Manchester.
I achieve 8A*'s and 2A's at GCSE (with an A* in Biology), and 2A*'s and 2A's at A-level (with an A* in Biology).
While studying for my A-levels I taught GCSE Chemistry, and have since received training in teaching. This was so that I could teach English in China for 7 weeks a few summer's ago, and I received praise for my teaching technique, for the progress my class made, for my lesson planning... and I had fun with the class alongside it all!
I'm very confident in my ability to explain anatomy, and to plan interactive, productive tutoring time. I'm happy to explain other aspects of the biology course too, having been through and passed it comfortably myself.. but ask for a few days warning so that I can brush up on it (as it's been 5-7 years since I learnt about plants etc!)
