The first step for me would be to give the student an exam which they can do in their own time so as to assess their strengths and weaknesses. Following this, a great emphasis would be placed on the weak areas, making sure not to neglect the areas that the student is strongest in. Each lesson would be started with going over the topic and tailoring the details taught to what the exam board requires. At the end of each session, I would go over some practice questions from that topic with the student so as to reinforce active recall. Finally, I would send the students the notes/slides from the session so that they can make notes at their own pace.
I am a medical student at the University of Cambridge and I am looking to get started in online tutoring Maths and science at a GCSE. I have had previous experience in tutoring my younger siblings in their verbal and non-verbal exams, with both of them eventually making it to grammar schools. I would, however, like to move on to tutoring in other subjects as I feel like my skills would best be used there.
I am a student looking for an opportunity to work and gain experience in working with people. I have previous work experience from shadowing doctors on wards in hospitals.
Walsall Academy, Bloxwich September 2011-June 2018: 13 GCSEs ranging from A*-B, including Maths, English Language and Science. I also have four A-Levels in Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology at grades A*A*A*A, respectively.
University of Cambridge: October 2018-June 2024: I am currently studying medicine.
Work Experience and Skills
Although I have no paid work experience, I do have work experience shadowing doctors in both New Cross Hospital and Walsall Manor Hospital. When I wasn’t able to shadow the doctors in specific areas, due to age restrictions, I would help the nurses and healthcare assistants to make sure that the wards were clean, and all equipment was properly sorted. In school I was also one of the heads of an organisation that provided confidential mental health and academic support for younger students. Along with looking after my own student, I was also responsible for assigning students to the appropriate mentor and for promoting the organisation to both teachers and students. From both of these opportunities, I have developed organisational skills and the ability to confidently and comfortably communicate with younger people. I have also seen the appropriate methods of communicating with people older than me or my own age and would like the opportunity to practice this. I am also good at tasks that require problem solving. From my studies I have also developed a sense of commitment that allows me to work until I feel that I am competent in an area.
