Medical student with a previous degree in law offering lessons in English, Biology and Law

Methodology

Every person has different requirements and I tailor my teaching style to suit the individual in-front of me. I try to understand what the student finds difficult and concentrate on the areas in which you need the most support. Everyone learns differently and so we need to try different approaches to see what learning style you find most effective.

I will provide explanations of topics but the lesson will be interactive with additional work to undertake in own time, which we can review together.

Background

I have a Bachelor of Laws (1st class honours) undergraduate degree and am currently studying towards a medical degree (graduate entry).

I have been involved in tutoring since I was a senior in secondary school, acting as buddy for junior children struggling with school work and I more recently have been helping fellow students prepare for their upcoming university exams.

Patricia's CV

Personal Profile
I have a Bachelor of Laws (1st class honours) undergraduate degree and am currently studying towards a medical degree (graduate entry). I have experience working with children via my voluntary work at Great Ormond Street and I also spent 3 months in Sri Lanka working with local schools teaching English and Sports Development in 2017. I enjoy working with children and strive to help them build confidence in their own abilities.

Education
Medicine MBBS (Graduate entry)
St George’s University of London, 2017-present

Law LLB (hons)
University of Manchester, 2011-2014
1st class (hons)

A-Level (Biology, Business Studies, History, English Literature)
Larne Grammar School, 2004-2011

Relevant Experience
Weekend Club Volunteer, Great Ormond Street
February 2017 - present
This role involves providing basic and discretionary play activities for patients and their siblings in the Activity Centre and on the ward. The main aim of the role is to foster creativity, relieve patient stress and worry, and to normalise the patient's environment. I enjoy helping children develop their arts and crafts abilities and build their confidence via play.

Volunteer Coordinator, Travelteer (Sri Lanka)
June 2017 – August 2017
I worked as part of a charity to promote English and Sports Development within local schools and community organisations. I worked directly with children aged 4-18 years and oversaw lesson plans and volunteer welfare.

Sub-Officer, Girls’ Brigade Northern Ireland
2009 – 2011
I worked with girls in the local community to promote their personal, educational and social development.

Other Experience
Legal and Compliance Associate, Neptune Investment Management
February 2015 – June 2017
I worked within the legal and compliance function to promote ethical business practice against European regulatory standards.

Legal Associate, Societe Generale
November 2014 – December 2014
I worked with the legal function to create a pilot project involving the computerisation of financial liability of OTC derivative contracts.

Patient Befriender, Trinity Hospice
July 2015 - June 2017
I visited a patient with a progressive, life-limiting illness once a week, on a one-to-one basis in their home or care facility. The role provides support for patients and an opportunity for carers to take a break from caring responsibilities. I provided emotional support such as chatting with a patient, listening or reading to them. I also provided practical support such as accompanying a patient to an appointment or social group. I highlighted any concerns about patient welfare to the Befriending Volunteer Coordinator and other healthcare professionals, such as the Bereavement Counsellor and Clinical Nurse Specialist. After each visit I completed a report which outlines any support I have provided and actions to follow up.

Liaison’s Officer, Nightline, University of Manchester
May 2013 - June 2014
Nightline is a confidential listening service run by students for students. As a member of the committee I trained volunteers for call handling.
