At the very beginning of the tuition session, I outline the areas of topic that the student struggles with and also briefly go over the areas that they are comfortable with which allows me to know whether they are confident enough that they would not need extra work on it. In every lesson my goal is to answer the "why does this work" question - I teach my students so that they understand why they are doing certain steps in a maths question since understanding the mechanisms will make it easier to remember how to do the question. I find that once a student understands maths, they enjoy it much more and then naturally do more of it which then enhances their confidence and ability! I am very patient and encourage students to attempt questions which may be beyond their grades so that there is familiarity and more practice with the scarier complex questions. Overall, I create very light and personalised lessons, I am particularly good at improving young children's confidence and helping them to find a skill and love for maths. In group settings I create friendly and fun classes and encourage collaborations between myself and the students and in some cases I will ask the student to teach the material that I have just taught them since people retain 90% more of the material through teaching. It is important to practise maths regularly to secure those impressive grades which is why I can also offer to set weekly homework.
I am a Cardiff student studying Architectural Engineering, I have privately tutored in London with students of primary school age to GCSE level meaning that I am able to tailor my lessons to suit my students individuality and capability. I aim to increase my students confidence in the subject and have seen massive improvements from the beginning of the lesson to the end of the exam period.
