Methodology

I am an extremely enthusiastic and dedicated teacher, as well as being a professional free-lance musician in the Manchester area. As a musician I have worked with many of the country's leading orchestras, and as an educator have travelled the country.

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

- I welcome all brass students of any standard
- Music Theory up to and including Grade 5

- Tell me about your qualifications.

- Grade 8 Tuba (Distinction), Grade 3 Piano, Grade 6 Music Theory
- Bmus (hons) 2:1 RNCM
- 4 A levels A,B,B,C

- How much do you charge?

- I charge £20 an hour, or £10 for 30 minute lessons.
- I can accommodate and allow parents or others to sit in on lessons. Alternatively I can travel to any student in the Manchester area, with travel expenses worked out on an individual basis.
- I offer one free consultation lesson, as I appreciate the need to find a Teacher that a student can trust and feels confident working with.

- Where do you teach?

I am willing to travel to a student's home (price to be arranged individually according to travel expenses)
Alternatively I can accommodate lessons at my own home in Crumpsall, Manchester.

- When are you available?

Highly flexible hours during the week and weekends.
This includes any term time holidays.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

I am passionate that everybody should be given the chance to learn a brass instrument!
As such I work with students of all ages.
All Brass instruments of any standard up to Grade 8 and above.

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?

- ABRSM
- Guildhall
- Trinity

I first started learning to play brass instruments at the age of eight and at the hands of Mrs Margaret Douglas. Since then I have gone on to enjoy a very successful career in music, playing with many of the countries leading professional orchestras.

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

I teach all brass instruments, and also conduct different school ensembles in the area.

- Tell me about your qualifications.

I studied at the RNCM and recieved a 1st Bmus (Hons). After this I dedicated my life to performing and teaching. I am fully DBS checked (details available upon request) and have many different types of child safeguarding and health and safety certificates.

- How much do you charge?

There are four different durations of lessons. For absolute beginners: 20 minutes - £11. Intermediate (Grade 2 - 5): 30 minutes - £16. Experienced: (Grade 5-8) 45 minutes - £23
Professional (Grade 8 and above) 60 minutes - £32

- Where do you teach?

I am able to teach at the Leys in Cambridge, outside of school hours and also in Fulbourn in a rented rehearsal space.

- When are you available?

My after school teaching takes place on Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

I teach students of all ages and any ability. From absolute beginner and producing their first note, to teaching other brass teachers and aspiring professional musicians.

Background

- What kind of experience do you have?

I am highly experienced in teaching all brass instruments to the highest standards.
Aside from one to one tuition I am also a keen group educator, working with the Royal British Legion, on a voluntary basis, I have lead young musicians in ensemble and band settings, as well as helping many musician's prepare for their first performance and beyond.
As a part of my Brass Quintet (Northern Brass) I have traveled the country delivering masterclasses and group tuition, I also have some experience of wider opportunity schemes in schools around Manchester as a volunteer for the "Come Play with the Hallé" scheme.

As a performer I have had the privilege of working with some of the country's leading orchestras. These include: The Hallé Orchestra, The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, The English National Ballet, The BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and the Raymond Gubbay Orchestra.

I am currently the Principal Tuba of the Young Musician's Symphony Orchestra (London) and Solo Eb Bass at the Brighouse and Rasterick Brass Band.

I have a CRB enhanced disclosure certificate

- Where and with whom did you train?

I began my musical education at the age of 17 at the Royal College of Music Junior Department, where I studied until the age of 19 and moved to Conservatoire Education. Since joining the RNCM in 2009 I have studied with teachers such as Ewan Easton (Principal Tuba of The Hallé Orchestra) Brian Kingsley (Principal Tuba of Opera North) and Robin Haggart (Principal Tuba of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra)

During this time I attended many different masterclass with visiting tutors and also was successful in completing the Hallé Orchestras PES Scheme for Orchestral training.

- What kind of experience do you have?

I have performed around the world in many of the countries leading orchestras, as well in a more experimental pop / jazz band. As an educator, I have toured the country delivering musical and scientific workshops with a company called Education Group. I currently hold two teaching posts, one at the Leys School in Cambridge, where I also conduct the brass ensemble and at Haslingfield Primary School.
