I am an experienced piano teacher and maths tutor working from my own home in Livingston although I do travel to some students' homes if required. I have been teaching piano and maths very successfully for about twenty years.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach piano/keyboard and mathematics.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I have my ABRSM Grade 8 and also the ABRSM Performance (Piano). I have a BSC Hons in Mathematics with Physics.
- How much do you charge?
My usual fee is £24 per hour, but most piano lessons are for half an hour which costs £12. Piano lessons should be paid for monthly in advance. A student must pay half price for any cancelled lessons. This secures the student's weekly slot in my schedule. Maths tuition can be paid for on the day and not in advance. Maths lessons usually last for one or two hours.
- Where do you teach?
I teach from my own home in Livingston, West Lothian or I may travel to a student's home if required.
- When are you available?
Contact me by text or phone to discuss available time slots for the lessons.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach both children and adults. In piano I teach from beginners to Grade 8.
In Maths I teach from GCSE to Advanced Higher Level.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I prepare piano students for the ABRSM Grade Exams 1 to 8. Students can choose whether or not to take piano exams.
In Maths I prepare students for GCSE, Intermediate, Scottish Higher and Advanced Higher Exams.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
Pupils and parents appreciate my friendly and patient approach to my lessons. Lessons will be individually tailored to suit your strengths and weaknesses. In Maths, I make sure you build on a sure foundation and are secure in the essential basics before progressing further. In Piano, I endeavour to meet your individual needs and teach you whatever style of piano playing you request, be it classical, easy listening, pop, jazz, church music or musicals. Why not come for a free taster lesson and see what I can do for you. Text or phone me and we'll get started.
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have taught piano for around twenty years teaching all levels from beginner to Grade 8. I teach both children and adults. Children usually start at age 6. My students have had considerable success in achieving not only passes in their piano exams, but also many have obtained a merit or distinction in their exam.
My maths students often achieve a pass level in their exams beyond their original expectations.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I do not have a DBS Certificate yet but intend to get that soon.
- Where and with whom did you train?
I have trained with David Wilde who is a retired professor of Music who taught in Hannover, Germany. David is known internationally and still performs, composes and records piano music. David studied with the renowned Nadia Boulanger in Paris. He has passed on to me some of the insights into piano playing he gained from his lessons with Nadia Boulanger. I also studied Piano Performance at Napier University in Edinburgh.
In Maths I obtained my BSc Hons in Mathematics with Physics from Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
At the moment I have a good mix of children and adult students. Often whole families have had lessons from me (parents and children). Some of my adult students have been with me for a good number of years as they enjoy the lessons and treat piano playing as a hobby. One of my students recently achieved a pass with Distinction in her ABRSM Grade 7 Piano exam.
