I believe teaching and learning can only take place against a backdrop of mutual respect and support. I also believe that learning should be a life long process.
My teaching methods engage all three types of learners, audio, visual and kinaesthetic. Both achievable and aspirational targets are set and constant feedback provided.
Eighteen years of teaching at GCSE, A-level and Undergraduate. Main subjects are Politics and Sociology but can also teach History, Citizenship and Social Policy. Friendly tutor, engaging and respectful who believes everyone is able to reach their full potential.
Jennifer was so helpful when teaching me, she was always so helpful and would always go the extra mile to help where ever she could. She would also be there to talk to when you need someone. She would be a credit to anyone needing her help.
Jennifer was my teacher at school in Sociology, she always always made lessons fun and engaging, especially given that lessons use to come in 2-3 hour blocks which sometimes can result in a lot of new info flying in one ear and out the other, she ensured that we all understood all the terminology and theories, and kept the subject completely unbias, her teachings helped me throughout my Degree which definitely helped give me a greater understanding on areas in where sociology was a presence in my essays/dissertation. An amazing, engaging and passionate teacher, with the pupils at heart, all of this is why I believe she is a trustworthy tutor.
Jennifer was a great Sociology teacher through both my GCSE and A-level exams. She didn't just teach me what I needed to know, but also gave me the tools and confidence to study around the subject independently.
Jennifer taught me for 4 years, I really enjoyed being taught by her and her approach to teaching. She is always engaging even when I was struggling at times her passion for the subject spurred me on. I never thought I'd do so well in my GCSEs especially as this was a fairly new subject for me, yet I came out with one of my highest grades which I then went on to do my A level sociology with her.
I really found every lesson so interesting and her open attitude so refreshing! Jennifer really is so supportive and extremely knowledgeable in everything she does. I still talk about this amazing teacher today, 5 years on, which just goes to show how much of an impact studying sociology with her had on me. Jennifer really opened my eyes to the world around me and how theories work in everyday life.
Jennifer pushes you as hard as she can to your very limit. She’s tough but kind and strives to help her students in the best way possible. She was there emotionally for myself when my father died during my A Levels, I cried and she listened, and she cried with me. It’s been 6 years since I saw her and I still think highly of her and believe she gave me the right support and self belief that helped me complete my A levels and carried me through my degree whilst I was going through a hard time in my life. She has dealt with some teenage temper tantrums! But truly tailors her teaching style to each individuals needs. I miss her!
I was taught GCSE and Alevel Sociology by Miss Barker. Her teaching method is brilliant and the lessons she gives are enjoyable. I would recommend her to anyone who is wanting to have tutoring in Sociology.
Jennifer teaches using contemporary, relevant and engaging materials - which leave you with an ignited passion for sociology. Her honest and transparent approach to teaching enlightens perspectives of certain topics. Jennifer encourages debate regarding important issues, which allow students to develop important foundations when understanding classification structures and sociological aspects. I highly recommend Jennifer as a tutor as her passion for sociology radiates in her work and teaching. It does not matter if you are at a GCSE, degree or post grad level - I can assure you, you will learn something (as I did). Humour, laughter and debate are some of my best memories I took from Jennifer! Jennifer’s teaching helped me develop as a person and see the world from a different perspective.

Jennifer was my sociology teacher from ages 14-16, she inspired me more than any other teacher and I wholeheartedly believe that I wouldn’t be where I am today without her. I feel privileged to have been taught by her.
This woman got me through my exams against all odds! Highly recommended.
