Hello, I am a freelance recorder player and teacher passionate about music education. I will tailor lessons to the individual pupil's needs, working towards exams or just for fun. I am open to pupils of any age or ability!
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach Recorders of all shapes and sizes, from beginners to post-grade 8.
Also Clarinet, Chamber Music and Music Theory to from Beginner to Grade 8.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I am currently studying for a Masters in Music (Advanced Instrumental Study- Recorders) at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama. I have a First Class Bachelors degree with Honours from the same institution in recorder performance, and DipGSMD (Concert Recital Diploma).
I have ABRSM Grade 8 with Distinction in Recorders and Clarinet.
- How much do you charge?
-£27 for an hour individual lesson
-£15 for a half an hour individual lesson
I can offer half-price consultation lessons on request.
Group lesson fees can be negotiated depending on the size of group and duration of lessons. Contact me for further details.
- Where do you teach?
I like to teach at pupils' homes.
I live in Islington but will travel to London Zone 3 for lessons, any further can be negotiated but additional travel costs will be added to the lesson fee.
- When are you available?
I am available for weekly lessons during school term-time (lessons in the school holidays can often be arranged but with less frequency.)
I have a fairly flexible timetable so have teaching slots available most evenings from 4.00pm and at the weekend.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I will take pupils from age 5 and upwards. Complete beginners - Grade 8.
I can teach recorder students past grade 8 to Dimploma level.

Students do not have to take exams if they don't want to! I also offer lessons for fun.

I can teach on skype where required.
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have been a freelance teacher for 6 years, and have experience teaching both individual and group lessons of all standards, as well as teaching children with behavioural difficulties. I have coached young chamber groups, and given workshops on ensemble playing. My own ensemble has been involved in the Wigmore Hall Chamber Tots Series, giving workshops and recitals aimed at the very young. Last year, I volunteered for Hackney Music service, shadowing teachers in whole class teaching, ensemble leading, and group lessons.
As a chamber musician and soloist I have performed at numerous venues and events across the UK, including Wigmore Hall, Wilton's Music Hall, Eton College, The Foundling Museum, LSO St. Luke's, Goldsmiths Hall, Christchurch Spitalfields, Kings Place, Greenwich International Early Music Festival and The London Handel Festival. So far in 2012, I have been a finalist in the prestigious Needlemaker's Woodwind Prize, and won a Musician's Benevolent Fund Postgraduate Performance Award for woodwind. I was also featured in the New London Orchestra's Young Artists Concerts Series as a soloist, and won the June Emerson Launchpad Prize as a chamber musician.

No, but I can arrange one if necessary.
- Where and with whom did you train?
I am currently training with Ian Wilson, Robert Ehrlich and Pamela Thorby at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
