I am a second year undergraduate at the University of Bath, where I am studying for the Biomedical Sciences BSc. I am fascinated by my subject, and would love to use my enthusiasm to help others! Please get in touch!
I am enjoying my studies at the University of Bath, where I am in the second year of the Biomedical Sciences BSc (Hons). I have keen interests in Human Biology, Biomedicine, and Biochemistry and enjoy the Statistics and Maths elements of the course. I found studying to get into university very difficult, and had 1:1 tuition to achieve the grade I needed in Chemistry A-Level. I believe that it is so important that you work hard to achieve the best grade you can; whatever grade that may be!
During time out of University, I worked full-time as a teaching assistant at a primary school in BANES. I worked 1:1 with a child with Type 1 Diabetes, and had responsibility for checking glucose levels, ketone levels, and injecting insulin accordingly. I also supported the class teacher, and loved working with small groups in the class. Further to this, I spent sessions afterschool doing 1:1 tuition in Maths and English for children who required additional support.
I completed the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) on Organ Donation and Transplantation, and looked at the Ethical and Social reasons why Organ Donation and Transplantation rates are as low as they are in the UK, compared to those of other countries. I thoroughly enjoyed completing this research during my time at sixth form, and found that it allowed me to prepare for academic study at university.
Having studied one year of the Medicine (Pre-Clinical) course at the University of Oxford, I have experience of Medicine applications, including: personal statement writing, entrance exam preparation (UKCAT and BMAT), and interview preparation (1:1 interviews and multiple-mini interviews). If you are interested in spending some time working on any of these things, do let me know, and I will help the best that I can!

I have worked in an administration and receptionist role at Cowan house, a Complementary Health Centre. I had responsibility working as a Personal Independence Payments (PIP) receptionist for vulnerable adults claiming PIP. The role required an enhanced CRB check, an understanding and practice of confidentiality, and a high degree of professionalism.

I suspended my studies during the Christmas period of 2015 due to ill health, and decided to work in paid employment whilst applying to transfer my undergraduate study rather than to return to Oxford University. I particularly enjoyed my Organisation of the Body modules at the university, which introduced me to concepts of developmental biology and embryology, and I wish to continue my studies in human developmental disorders in year 3.
Churchill Community School and Sixth Form
A Level Results: (2014)
Fine Art A
Extended Project Qualification - Organ Donation and Transplantation A
GCSE results 13 GCSE’s grades A-A* including Mathematics and English
January - March 2016 – Volunteering for two days each week for three months at Springboard opportunity playgroup allowed me to work 1:1 with children with cerebral palsy, and severe learning difficulties.
September 2014-December 2015 - Participating in our weekly college journal club at university introduced me to effective presentation skills and to critical appraisal of research papers. Presenting papers, such as a Nature paper on nociceptive brain activity in newborn infants, allowed me to advance my skills in statistical analysis and my understanding of clinical research techniques.
Summer 2013 - Work experience opportunities at Baytree special school and Castle Batch primary School gave me an insight into the importance of Makaton, sign language and communication aids to provide effective communication with individuals with speech and language difficulties. I spent three weeks in hospital work experience placements over the summer, including a week at the BRI (Bristol Royal Infirmary), a week at Weston General Hospital and a week at Spire Hospital Bristol. I enjoyed spending time in the pathology lab as well as spending time in cardiothoracic and orthopedic surgeries.
July 2012 - It was interesting to look into the current UK policies for organ donation for my Extended Project, and I was surprised at how ethical, social and cultural perspectives affect donation consent. Following the Medlink conference in 2012, I co-wrote on the paper on the anti-depressant effects of exercise on the hippocampus, which was published online. Both projects were an excellent opportunity and I am highly motivated to be involved in research in the future.
