Perfect! He is the best.
Perfect! Muhammad is one of the best, actually not ‘one off’ he is ‘THE BEST’ tutor you can come across on Student Prof when it comes to Accounting and Finance, especially in the finance industry. He is a very approachable tutor and will take into consideration all your needs and will ensure to help you to the level of achieving a high grade. I took help from Muhammad for one of my Accounting modules and if it was not for his assistance to aid me to be able to undertake the assessment, I would not have been able to do. He is willing to work with you accordingly and to your suitability. I really recommend Muhammad as he has really worked hard to ensure I understand the content for the Module and give me the best possible support he is able to give. Thanks once again to him as if it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t know what I would have done.

01
When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?
During my studies, I realized that I have good attention to detail, excellent analytical skills and carry out work accurately and concisely. In addition, I gained interest in subjects such as Finance, Accounting, Investment management, portfolio construction and Econometrics. Therefore, I decided to become a professional in the field of Finance. In addition, I always enjoyed sharing knowledge, which is a reason for becoming a teacher.
02
Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).
I teach Finance and accounting subjects to Bachelor and master’s Students. I help students and organizations in developing financial and econometric models by applying the finance theories and models to perform certain functions such as portfolio construction, risk-adjusted return maximization, portfolio rebalancing and asset allocation. In addition, I provide training to finance and investment professionals according to the latest finance research. Preparing professionals for specialized Finance and Accounting Exams such as CFA and IMC.
I have a strong understanding in the application of Bloomberg, STRATA, EVIEWS and other financial databases. Teaching students of UCL, Westminster, CASS Imperial and LSE have provided me with a good understanding of both undergraduate and postgraduate studies. I believe both my academic knowledge and market experience will be invaluable for the University to help inspire and prepare the students for working life. Topics I teach include finance, accounting, investment management and econometrics.03
Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?
Prof Dr Marcelo Fernandes taught me portfolio construction and asset management. He was a real source of inspiration to me during my studies. The most distinctive quality in his teaching was that apart from theoretical understanding, he always explained how the theory can be applied and how it can be made a part of the practice. This style of teaching allowed me to gain the professional aspect of my subjects.

What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?
Adaptability (flexibility, adjustability, versatility)
With individual tutoring, you must adapt yourself to every case. Since there is no pre-determined formula, the tutor’s approach must depend on the student’s need and the difficulties he or she experiences. Throughout the sessions, the tutor will have to re-evaluate the student’s objectives as they progress. It is therefore important not to be afraid of creating a new action plan that will be better adapted to each new situation.
Energy (motivation, enthusiasm, interpersonal skills)
To establish a good relationship, the tutor must be an energetic person, someone with a lot of enthusiasm with respect to human interactions. This interest will certainly have a positive impact on a child discouraged by school and his or her bad grades. Through his or her good mood and motivation, the tutor will be a model for success, inciting the child to imply himself or herself more and do better at school.
Openness (accessibility, availability, involvement, empathy)
Listening to the needs of the student and demonstrating openness will help to better understand their situation. Inquiring about the context (academic situation, environment at school, at home, etc.) allows the adoption of a more appropriate follow-up and the better use of work methods. The tutor’s involvement and presence offer support for a student in trouble and will make the student feel valued. The tutor’s openness must demonstrate their accessibility and involvement. A good tutor must be curious by and interested in the student they are helping.
Humility (respect, discernment, acceptance)
Even though we think we have most of the subject matter on the tips of our fingers, it may happen that some concepts escape us. It’s normal, we can’t know everything, and we must be able to recognize this. It is in fact preferable to tell the student that we don’t know the answer rather than guess it. In other situations, where the personalities don’t mix or when the sessions are not producing the desired effect, it is important to take a step back and admit that we may not be the right person to help this student.05
Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.
Finance requires complex information to be communicated simply and that is something I have a lot of experience in due to my teaching of students at different levels. One of my subjects in master’s was Financial Derivatives. This subject was very technical and complicated, therefore, most of the classmates were struggling, however, the subject was clear to me, therefore, I taught this subject to the class which turned out in a big success.
06
What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?
After MBA Finance and Accounting and MSc Finance, I developed strong theoretical understanding of the subjects (Finance, Accounting and Econometrics). However, I felt to better meet my students’ expectations and teach at a more professional level, it is highly significant to gain research-based and professional knowledge about the subject. Therefore, I have decided to enhance my academic and professional level. In this regard, I have done two qualifications that include PhD Finance and CFA.
07
Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?
There are two reasons that made me passionate about teaching, one my passion about my subject finance and accounting and second the desire to learn and share knowledge.
08
What makes you a Superprof (besides answering this interview questions :-P) ?
Finance requires complex information to be communicated simply and that is something I have a lot of experience in due to my teaching of students at different levels. In addition, I am highly organised and possess business and commercial acumen which all supplement and enhance my teaching and makes me a Superprof.
