I am a first year Music and French student at Durham University but I spend my holidays in my home island of Guernsey. I have grade 8 distinction in singing, violin and alto saxophone and have experience in tutoring 9-13 year olds in violin and saxophone. I believe that it is important for pupils to focus not only on developing a confident command of the instrument, but also to develop their musicianship and realise the immense enjoyment that can be had from participating in any sort of music. I try to make lessons fun and varied by introducing a range of technical exercises and pieces that will stretch the pupil. As a student myself, I hope to be able to relate to my pupils and develop a good student/teacher relationship. This, along with my passion for music and desire to share my knowledge with the next generation of young musicians, would make me a good choice as a tutor for younger musicians. Please don't hesitate to get in touch!
In the past, I have given private violin lessons to students at grades 3 and 4 with two of these pupils achieving a merit. I taught my alto saxophone pupil from scratch and she now plays in a jazz band alongside other saxophonists at grade 4 and 5 standard after only 1 year of teaching. I also ran weekly rehearsals for the training string orchestra at my school last year and entered them into the local music festival where they won their class. On top of this, I took violin sectionals for the Elementary String Orchestra within the local music service, helping the pupils to perfect their technique and music reading skills. I have gained this experience in the last 4 years.
If it is necessary for me to travel by train, a reimbursement of the train ticket may be required.
