I would describe my approach as holistic and exploratory, enabling the student to use their initiative and be supported to problem solve towards independent learning. Overcoming self limiting blocks and obstacles to progression. Sadly all too common amongst pianists!
My interest and focus is primarily on the classical piano repertoire, including 20th century music.
I consider myself a learner too in the joint process of musical discovery.
I originally came from a choral background. Singing in a choir and having singing lessons before gaining entrance to a Cathedral choir as a child where I began to study piano and the clarinet. Therefore music has always been a central part of life from my early years.
I have a BMus from Goldsmiths College/University of London (20+ years ago) where i specialised in Piano. I also have a post Graduate Diploma in Music Therapy (Nordoff Robbins and Roehampton), which required a high level of musicianship and improvisation skills. As a Music therapist i have worked with all age ranges, in various settings and across a broad spectrum of needs.
I am returning to teaching piano and some years ago taught for a London Music Service in primary and secondary schools.
I am currently studying for the LRSM in performance.
Cancel 24 hrs prior to lesson, otherwise charged 50% of lesson price.
If the student wishes to re arrange a piano lesson time by mutual agreement, then 24 hrs notice must be given, otherwise the above applies. Flexibility of times will depend on my current work schedule.
