Dear Parent / Student,
Welcome to my profile.
But, first a word of explanation.
This company "Superprof" have taken over our favourite "Tutor Pages" and changed the style of presentation of the tutors' profiles. What was a clear, structured interview on "Tutor Pages" appears below as a series of questions and answers. It's a bit wordy but it should answer most of your questions.
I work to find out the student's strengths and weaknesses, then fill in any gaps in the student's knowledge and understanding. Followed by plenty of practice on questions. The approach is totally personalised to the needs of the individual student.
My name is Michael. I am a fully qualified teacher, experienced, professional and friendly tutor of Maths and Physics.

Q - Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
Over the last few years I have developed strategies, including Skype, Zoom and screen-sharing, to deliver tuition online, so that I can share my knowledge and enthusiasm with a wider range of students who would benefit from my help. It is an excellent option when travelling distance is a problem.
For your FREE online discussion of how I teach online, and to see it in action - please either email to (concealed information) or phone or send me a text message.
Modern technology enables you to have a personal tuition learning experience which is just as effective as having face-to-face tuition. My job is to make it so.
For many students online tuition is less stressful and more effective than face-to-face tuition. You might like to try a free preliminary Skype / Zoom meeting online. It's free, takes 20 to 30 minutes of your time to see how my system works, with no obligation to book tuition.
With my current online students and parents (GCSE Maths; GCSE Physics and A - Level Physics ) I create a working relationship and a learning experience which is just as effective as face - to - face tuition. That's my job and I'm good at it. See if you agree.
We use Skype (or the more stable Zoom) for conversation. It's just like talking to each other around the same kitchen table ! I can still share my qualifications, my certificates, my enhanced DBS certificate and discuss the student's educational needs, just as I do in face - to - face.
In our online lesson - the pages of notes which I - and the student - compose together in the course of the lesson - at the end of the lesson I scan the pages and send them to the student. That way the student gets the complete set of our personalised lesson notes, to keep on their computer or to print out.
I do it this way because the quality of my handwriting on paper is excellent and much better than writing on online whiteboards.
However, an interactive online whiteboard is good to use from time to time; and can be useful for both of us to write on, for working together on questions and past papers.
it depends on what the student prefers.
The student does not have to download anything to his / her computer (just Skype - or Zoom - for free), and have a reliable internet connection and a printer / scanner is helpful.
I sometimes use a graphics tablet and stylus to write on the interactive whiteboard,BItpaper, and the student can write on it too using a mouse or the Huion 420, but it's not a necessity.
The benefits to the student and teacher of online tuition are:
• convenience of not having to travel on cold and dark evenings. Great if you can't find a local tutor or if you are overseas.
* you can find an excellent tutor online.
* you're not limited to a tutor who lives within a 5 or 10 mile radius.
* 2 students together can benefit from online tuition.
• no travel costs.
• no disruption to home life.
• working in familiar home environment, or anywhere you can get on the internet. (It doesn't have to be a very fancy high speed connection).
• more time slots available.
• excellent for either one-off help, short - term or longer term help with homeworks, topics or exam paper practice.
• no long - term contract, unless you want to discuss a longer term package of lessons.
• tuition when you need it.
• tutor support between lessons.
Q - Do you have a personal message for students?
Whether you need help with homework, coursework guidance, specific topics, revision strategies, or exam technique and practice at past exam papers, etc.... help is available, and you and parents WILL see improvement = decreased stress, less worry and anxiety, increasing CONFIDENCE with the subject.
This usually follows through to BETTER GRADES in tests and exams.
Do you want to learn Maths or Physics, have fun and make great progress?
PERSEVERE - and you WILL find a path to your dream.
Drop me a line. Maybe I can help to make the path a bit easier for you.
Other than that, if your still reading, very well done!
I wish you every success in what you choose to do.
- What kind of experience do you have?
I've been a secondary school teacher in the West of London and a private tutor of both Maths and Physics for 25+ years;
Having taught in St. Mark's School, Hounslow and as Head of Physics in Cranford Community College and Ealing Tutorial College I nowadays provide tuition, either face-to-face in my home at Whitton or - increasingly - online.
I have taught students across the full ability range, students with moderate learning difficulties as well as those aiming to achieve top grades in GCSE and at A - Level.
All of my advanced students have gone on to University, some to medical school and successful Oxford or Cambridge entrance.
In my early years I gained experience as an examiner and that has enabled me to guide my students more effectively in preparation for GCSE and A - Level exams.
I am very familiar with the requirements of the main Exam Boards and the recent changes to their specifications in both Maths and Physics.
Over the last few years I have developed strategies, including Skype and the latest advances in technology, to carry out tuition online, so that I can share my knowledge and enthusiasm with a wider range of students who would benefit from my help. Please ask me for details of how online tuition can work for you and see details below.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Yes I have an Enhanced DBS certificate.
At the preliminary meeting my credentials, qualifications, DBS Certificate, will be presented to parents & student.
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I am a member of the National Education Union (N.E.U / NUT).
Affiliated to the Institute of Physics.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
They range from Years 8, 9, boys / girls for Maths / Science, years 10 / 11 and Year 12 & 13 boys and girls for Physics & Maths, GCSE and A - Level, and adults - recently a woman seeking Numeracy Skills to gain entry to a University Nursing course (success) and yet another seeking seeking Numeracy Skills for entry to a teacher training course for QTS (PGCE) (success again).
ONLINE - some of my students are nearby, others are far away in the UK and others are overseas, notably, last year, a boy being home schooled in IGCSE Maths and Physics in remotest Spain, and a girl in A - Level Physics in China; another in Kuwait. In either case we have just as good a 1 - to - 1 working relationship as in face to face, maybe even better ! Please see examples of my work in "My Files". Many other examples are available on request. Just drop me a line.
A-Level £45 per hour
I have taught Maths, Physics and Technology for 7 years in St. Mark's School, Hounslow. Then I did 15 years in Cranford Community College, Hounslow, where I was Head of the Physics Department.
In the last 10 years I have developed my skills as a personal tutor and now offer teaching and learning to a wide range of students online in the UK and across the world.
If you would like your own free consultation just write me a few lines.
Excellent! Michael is a very experienced tutor who clearly explained the topics and provided the 'lesson notes' very promptly after the session - would use him again
To begin with, last week - Fiona - Claudia's mother- and I, we had a detailed chat on the phone and followed this with a Skype / Zoom meeting where all 3 of us discussed the Physics tuition needed and my method for delivering effective tuition online.
This week Claudia and I met on Zoom for our first lesson - Physics A-Level.
We soon got into our stride, with Claudia communicating clearly, asking good questions and me writing our notes as our conversation progressed. We covered Newton's Laws of Motion, 1 and 2, saving his Third Law for another occasion and got started on "Work, Energy and Power". After the lesson I scanned our sheets of notes and sent them to Claudia. It's early days yet, but I feel we have made a very good start.
“M. likes the sessions with you and likes doing it online. Considering he got a 3 for his mocks and is now getting a secure 5 and perhaps with a push he could scrape a 6 we feel the sessions are really paying off.”
A. is finding your lessons very useful. His grades at school have improved and he is now actually predicted an A – IF he continues to work. I still don't think he likes the subject but is definitely getting extra practice, help and support through your weekly lessons.
As a parent I like the notes you provide and the promptness at which you send these on. I also like the way you mark the papers using an online pen. You were the first online tutor I have experienced and would like to say
how impressed I am with this method as it is saving us both valuable time.

Michael, I would highly recommend you as a tutor and wish I had found you earlier. Who knows A. may have taken A Level Physics.
