To teach accent reduction, I flag individual sounds that each client needs to address. I will provide some written notes on specific sounds that need work, explaining how to make the sound and providing examples to practice. Each lesson consists of introducing a few sounds that need work, the "th" sound for example, and we spend time making sure they are pronounced correctly in context. We then look at text and normal conversation and try to input what's been learned into speech. Often, where English isn't the first language, there is also some work to be done on the pronunciation of spellings that are the same but signal different sounds, such as the "oo" in "book" and the "oo" in "boot". Depending on your requirements, I tend to only focus on sounds that might cause the meanings of words to be confused, striving for a clearer version of your own accent. I have also helped actors who want full RP accents.
What you get: worksheets; individual vocal assessment; time to practice and consolidate (if you want it); classes at your own pace.
To teach English using a range of techniques which I tailor to the client's needs. I have experience preparing clients for the SELT certificate and B1 English exam which focuses on spoken English. This includes devising topics, constructing sentences relevant to the topic and practicing conversation while I make corrections I also am happy to read and correct written English, but I'm sure to explain why I have made my corrections as I go.
One of our best tutors! High-quality profile, qualifications verified and response guaranteed. Francesca will plan your first lesson with care.
I obtained my BA in acting at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, one of the UK's top drama schools. I have 3 As at A level and 7 As-A*s, 2 Bs and a C at GCSE level, including an A* in English and A in Science. I am currently studying Psychology at Birkbeck university, with a view to eventually specialise in Educational Psychology.
As an actress I have been trained by many vocal coaches and have gone on to train others in how to speak confidently and assertively. I also received three years of training in Received Pronunciation as part of my degree, knowledge that is essential for anyone wishing to soften an accent.
As a teacher I have my own business, (concealed information) teaching drama, LAMDA and confidence building with a strong focus on voice and interpersonal skills. I lead workshops in many capacities for schools, youth groups and stage schools focusing on varying disciplines such as Shakespeare, improvisation, puppetry and drama school preparation.
As an actress, I've performed in top UK theatres and for the BBC. I have also directed and developed work for Theatre West and am a member of the Young Vic Directors' Program. I know about drama school auditions and can advise you on the dos and don'ts, the speech choices, speech delivery and interviews as you navigate the exciting audition process.
I offer a half an hour free consultation over Skype, (even if you plan on face to face regular sessions). In this time we will form a study plan together and I can assess how best to use our time. For accent softening, I will send some material prior to this session and ask you to read it aloud so that I can assess which sounds need attention.
For face to face sessions, I recommend meeting in your office, in libraries or coffee shops in central or East London. I am willing to meet at your home or to hold sessions in my own home after the introductory session, but please note that I charge £5 to travel beyond 45 minutes from my own house via public transport.

Excellent! First of all, I am really thankful to Francesca, that within a very short time, she managed to prepared my friend for her B1 SELT exam. Few things I must say about her that, she is always well prepared for the lesson and understand the learner's need very well. I really appreciate her support and strongly recommended her as an English teacher.

Perfect! Francesca is an excellent tutor. She responded quickly to my emails and was always on time for each lesson. Her approach of teaching is flexible and based on the person. Jemal is a brilliant student and I enjoyed our first lesson.
Francesca is both reliable and inspirational. She has single handedly set up a theatre training academy in East London that strives to give children from lower income backgrounds the same access to the arts as their more privileged counterparts. Francesca approaches each lesson with a great deal of intelligence, creativity and passion and I would have no hesitation in recommending her to students studying at any level.
Francesca is a fantastic tutor. She responded quickly to my emails and was always on time for each lesson. She was extremely knowledgeable and provided lots of learning material to help me progress quicker than I had imagined. Highly recommended.
