My lessons are for beginner to advanced levels, GCSE and A Level students, adult learners, for school, work, or even just for fun!
(Because of current distance learning/teaching, I have to adapt my methods and the way we're working now is a little bit different from what follows)
How does a class take place, you wonder? Here's a short overview:
Each class is tailored on the learner's needs and desires. In general, I make sure that we work both on writing and speaking in each session. The exercises aim at working on syntax, vocabulary, grammar, and spelling. Since French is a pretty difficult language when it comes to writing, I will not hesitate to take all the time you need to help you out with all of this. The conversation part focuses on pronunciation, speech rhythm, oral comprehension, and the use of what is seen during the exercises. We may work on specific material if you have some at home, or I'll bring mine. I try to vary support and topics as often as possible; with my learners in France we spoke about news, everyday life, cooking, travelling, events in the world, their job, their families, how to exchange in English in a professional context, politics, and everything they enjoyed talking about. We also read newspaper articles mainly from the Guardian and watched news from CNN for US English and BBC for UK English. The aim was to train them to face different situations they were likely to encounter in real life. I'm following the same pattern for French lessons.
I always keep in mind how hard learning, speaking and writing a language is. That's exactly what I studied in my two MA's theses and exactly how I feel when I learnt and am learning languages myself. Many learners are scared to talk with a native speaker; remember, I'm not here to make you feel bad, but I'm here to support you, help you at the best of my abilities, and make you feel confident to show you how good you can do in French :)
I graduated in a MA in English Linguistics from the Université Paris 7 Diderot, Paris, in July 2019, and was awarded First-Class Honours. I'm currently working in London as a French Language Assistant at Enfield Grammar School and County School since October.
It's been almost a year now that I've been working as a FLA - which I absolutely enjoy! -, and I have tutored French speakers in English for 3 years. Most of them were adult learners who needed conversational and written English for their professional and personal achievements. I pay a lot of attention to the relationship I establish with my students; learning a language should be fun and I do my best to set a friendly atmosphere so that we both have fun during the lesson while hardworking together! My students and I happily observed that they all managed to make real progress and reach the level they needed.
In last May, I started giving French lesson on Zoom. Alongside my remote work for the schools, I'm also teaching 3 adult learners from the UK.
Since October 2019, I am a French language assistant at Enfield Grammar School and Enfield County School (London). I train students from Year 9 to 13 for French GCSE and A-level. We work on their conversation skills, rehearse the vocab and grammatical structures they need to learn for their exams. I also create resources for the MFL Department, both in French and Spanish.
From Sept 2017 to July 2019, I was a private English tutor (Paris) alongside my studies. Most of my students were adult learners who needed to improve their English for work. We worked on all the skills assessed by the CEFR scale. Their level ranged from beginner to intermediate and all managed to improve at the end of the academic year. They had better linguistic knowledge in English for everyday life and in English specific to their professional occupation. I worked with a student in the French equivalent of Year 13 to prepare the English exam of the A-Level equivalent but unfortunately had to stop helping her in the middle of the year because of timetable changes.
From Oct 2015 to May 2016, I was an English and Spanish tutor (Paris) and helped a student in the French equivalent of Year 10 with these two languages. Within this period she highly improved and got grades between 14/20 (70/100 in UK notation) and 16/20 (90/100) in both languages.
Perfect! She is very patient and encouraging. Tanya has an excellent knowledge of language and present the lesson in a structured way.
Très gentille, professionnelle, souriante, à l’écoute du besoin de son élève. J’ai eu une très belle expérience avec Tanya et j’ai fait beaucoup de progrès rapidement.
Je la recommande vivement !
Very kind, professional, smiling, listening to the needs of his student. I had a great experience with Tanya and I made a lot of progress quickly.
I highly recommend it!
