I am a dynamic and adaptable individual with a knack for identifying how someone learns best. I usually spend my first lesson getting to know the student and assessing what they're expecting from these lessons: I find that you get better results if both tutor and tutee are working towards a common goal. I provide individually-tailored lessons and use platforms through which the student learn best.
Above all, I strive to make my lessons a dialogue, rather than a one-sided lecture: I will always have time for questions, no matter when they arise in the lesson. Discussion fosters curiosity in a topic, which I believe is a tutor's paramount objective. This lesson plan has worked really well with previous students and I am eager to apply it new individuals.
My lessons are not geared to any particular type of student: my ability to adapt my lessons means I have successfully tutored students with and without learning disabilities in both individual and group settings.
I have extensive tutoring experience and have been teaching students since 2012. After a hiatus, I have taken on lessons again in January 2019 and have gradually dedicated more of my time to providing one-on-one and group tutoring sessions.
Since October 2019, I have been working for a tutoring agency that mainly focuses on teaching students with learning disabilities (e.g. anxiety, ASD, ADHD) and other mental health problems. I provide lessons in GCSE Maths and Science, and A-level Maths and Biology.
I also have experience tutoring students without learning disabilities. From January to June 2019, I tutored a GCSE student with severe difficulties in Maths and Science for 4h/week. I devised my own lessons and we worked through school-provided exercise booklets. Mock exams prior to the start of tuition showed this student also struggled with esteem for their abilities: despite knowing their lesson, this student struggled to put pen to paper. Working on both academic and self-esteem aspects, we were able to increase their grades from averages of 1-2 to 4-5.
I have also tutored groups of students in GCSE Science at Harris Academy St John's Wood and Harris Academy Falconwood from January 2019 to May 2019. Sessions involved a combination of my own lessons and working through exercise booklets provided by the schools. Halfway through our tutoring sessions, mock exams highlighted significant improvements, with some students surpassing the target they had been set
All in all, to date, I have provided commended one-on-one tuition to 6 students and group tuition to 3 cohorts.
I have been told I am an eloquent, focused, and adaptable individual. Combined with my extensive tutoring experience, I believe these skills make me an excellent tutor.
I have recently graduated from UCL with a Master's in Neuroscience and Medical Physics. In school, I often found that enthused teachers can really make the difference when it comes to understanding a subject. As a tutor with extensive experience, I love to share this enthusiasm for both Science and Mathematics. In my spare time, I organise and lead hikes and enjoy swimming.
I teach Maths and Science topics at both A-level and GCSE by providing individually-tailored lessons that foster dialogue and promote curiosity.
I spend my first lesson getting to know the student and assessing what they're expecting from these lessons. I then generate lessons that fit the student's requirements and preferences for particular teaching platforms.
I have known Selim for many years. He is deeply knowledgeable about Science and Maths. He is an adaptable person who explains difficult topics in a way that fits his audience. He is reliable and very patient. He ticks all the boxes to make a great tutor.
