I am able to give lessons to children who need tutoring in biology and adolescents who are studying for psychology and biological psychology subjects. By being patient and thorough, my sessions will help individuals to grasp otherwise hard concepts and will include demonstrations of efficient study techniques so that the child/adolescent can study well out of tutoring.
I teach the skills I have gained myself through the completion of my own studies, to facilitate the better learning of students. I have previously informally tutored individuals (ranging from ages 6-20 years) previously, aiding in essay writing and exam preparation. Through my help, students have managed to achieve at least one grade higher than they were previously averaging. On top of this, I have worked with a severely autistic child in order to help him gain communication skills.
If the student lives quite far then I may require some travel expenses.
I have an MSc in neuroscience from King's College London for which I achieved a high merit. The main focus of my studies were neural stem cells and nervous system repair, but I also studied topics such as neurodegeneration, neurogenetics, clinical neuroscience and more.
As part of my MSc I carried out a laboratory experiment at University College London, which was concerned with research into a particular cell adhesion molecule. Therefore, I have practical experience as well as theoretical experience in cell biology.
I have a BSc in psychology from the University of Liverpool for which I achieved a high 2:1. I mainly studied biological psychology for this degree, but I am also competent in other psychological disciplines such as cognitive, developmental and social. Specific topics I studied in more detail were; phytopharmacology, appetite regulation and obesity, brain and behaviour, severe mental illness, neurobiology of emotions and the psychobiology of pain. I also studied multiple modules of research methods and statistics.
I have carried out several psychology based work experiences. For example, I was a research assistant for a period of time at the University of Salford, assisting in an addiction study project. I completed an internship at the University of Liverpool which involved extracting data from medical profiles and performing statistical analyses. I also sent some time assisting research into the application of robotics to dementia.
As well as this, I worked with a severely autistic boy. I helped him to gain communication skills and helped him develop other skills such as going to the toilet.
