I love to inspire and help the young and old on their musical journeys. By studying an instrument, I want the pupil first and foremost to enjoy themselves. I encourage and aim to give the pupil a rich appreciation of the building blocks of music and a better grasp of the instrument by setting achievable goals. I believe that the student can grow as an individual through focussed practice of their instrument and I require my students to practice in between lessons.
I have been teaching Western violin for approximately ten years at Manchester, Salford and Wigan Music Services. I’ve given Indian workshops at many of the major conservatoires in the north of the UK, in schools and for leading Indian Cultural Organisations. I have taught Indian violin over three years for the leading asian arts organisation 'Milapfest' in Liverpool.
After giving my first performance at the age of four, I spent my childhood and teen years mastering classical music before going on to explore the art of improvisation.
I am inspired by many forms of music including Indian, Jazz and Cuban music and I like to write my own compositions. I have performed at many of the UK’s biggest venues such as the Lowry and Bridgwater Hall in Manchester as well as at the Barbican in London where I performed with the “Owl Ensemble” string quartet with Paul Heaton (Beautiful South). I’ve appeared at most of the UK’s main Jazz festivals with my own Indian Style Jazz band “Unfurl” and played at Glastonbury several times with a Flamenco guitarist. Within Indian Classical Music contexts, I have performed internationally many times with tabla player Mukesh Jadhav from Pune and most recently with Chiravina Maestro Ravikiran.
