As an outgoing and compassionate creative, I am a firm believer in sharing valuable skills and helping others achieve their potential.
My lessons are a great opportunity for:
- anyone embarking on a high-end career in retouching. I will introduce you to baseline methods which are essential to starting your career and will give you a valuable headstart to others competing for Junior retoucher roles.
- Photographers who desire a deeper understanding of how Photoshop can be used to get the best possible quality out of their images, through tech specs, colour balancing and grading techniques.
- Anyone with a general interest in getting to grips and learning tips and tricks with this creatively diverse software from an industry professional.
My one to one teaching approach is flexible and I can offer the lesson via WebCam or face to face at my home office.
Our initial correspondence will give us a chance to get to know one another and to discuss your learning aims and goals for our sessions.
From there we can get to work, and it is very much a 'learn-as-you-go' approach with the full focus on your specific needs. As such, you may wish to bring along your own images and retouch requests for us to work through together. Lessons usually last 2-3 hours.
Common Topics Covered are:
- How to best organise your PS Workspace for ease and clarity
- The most effective workflow methods to avoid confusion and mistakes
- Layers: the different types and layer ordering
- Masking: getting to grips with layer masks, when and how to use them
- Different methods of selection
- Technical specs and tips for quality assurance
My background in photography and post-production goes back to my early college days in 2006 when I first started using Photoshop for my photography projects. I then went on to study at Art Foundation level where my love of painting and photography combined to form a keen interest in photographic manipulation (retouching). From there I was accepted onto Westminster University's Photographic Arts BA Hons, where I further explored the creative use of Photoshop within photography.
In 2012 I was offered a junior retoucher role at a high-end retouch house in London's creative district. It was here that I trained to a high-end level and I have been working as a freelance retoucher since early 2016. During this time I have collaborated with some of the worlds biggest fashion, advertising and fine art photographers, publications and brands.
Through the years I have trained a number of junior retouchers in high-end retouching processes and techniques, helped photographers achieve the desired visual and quality results for their work, and taught one on one lessons with aspiring creative graduates.
My tutees have been able to apply their new skills and knowledge towards the advanced use of industry standard workflows and processes. Others have found our sessions invaluable for gaining a general understanding of how the software can be used within the realms of photography and other creative digital outlets.

Perfect! I am currently involved in 1-2 hour instructive and pleasant Photoshop Tutorials with Amy
As a 'mature student', I find her to be professional, knowledgeable and articulate and able to pitch the tutorial to my level of knowledge and technical understanding.
She has a personable and the most friendly demeanour and I can wholeheartedly recommend Amy without reservation.
Perfect! Amy is very educated and experienced in her subject matter, and is patient and clear in her explanations. When teaching something like photoshop, there are so many ways to do one thing and she is always willing to tailor her teaching to work with your personal workflow. I've been looking for a photo editing tutor to help me for a long time, and i'm so pleased I found Amy. She has been invaluable in helping me to improve my photo editing skills and on top of that she has gone out of her way to advise me on how to improve my skills and options in all areas of the professional photography business, from photoshop to printing to wedding photography. I highly recommend Amy - she is a great tutor and a lovely person.
Michelle is an absolute joy to teach. Friendly, extremely motivated and quick to pick up on the more advanced processes. Our Skype screen sharing sessions have worked wonders with our work schedules and geographical distance. It's also meant we've been able to apply our lesson plans to her immediate photoshop needs. Furthermore, Michelle's constructive and honest feedback at the end of each of our sessions is invaluable to me. I highly value her as one of my students!
Perfect! Amy was very punctual and friendly and is very good at communicating. I gained a great deal in the first lesson due to Amy's obvious extensive knowledge of Photoshop and her style of teaching - very hands on, great at direction, and extremely patient. Fantastic and was very pleased. Look forward so much to the next lesson.
My first class with Rachel was very pleasent and productive. Rachel was completely engaged, keen and quick to learn. I felt she made great progress during the two hours and gave me very valuable feedback. I look forward to our next session.
Amy really helped me with my retouching career, as a beginner to the profession of retouching she broke everything down for me to make it more understandable. She was patient and extremely knowledgeable about all the things that I wanted to get out of my sessions with her. I cannot recommend her highly enough.
Amy is a very welcoming and friendly tutor! I have a mixture of skills in photoshop, some beginner and others slightly more intermediate, and Amy was able to adapt quickly to teaching me at different levels for different aspects of the software. She has a very clear and well paced teaching style, that kept me engaged throughout. I am definitely going to go back for a second lesson as everything I learnt in the first has made my photographs look so much better already! Highly recommend!
