‘Caroline was the turning point in my becoming an author.’
The one thing I care the most when teaching languages is helping my students develop confidence in themselves and, as a result, develop fluency. I view mentoring aspiring writers in a similar light.
As a former editor, I’m used to working with authors and giving feedback on manuscripts at any stage of the writing process. I can help you start or resume the writing of your novel, sharpen your style and improve your plot. I have extensive marketing experience as well, which means I can also help with your short/detailed synopsis and the notoriously tricky ‘elevator pitch’.
Writing is my vocation and my passion. Creating stories to share with others has not only given me joy, but also strength and confidence in myself. I would therefore love nothing more than being able to help you develop your writing skills and confidence in your own voice.
Online tuition: please note that I'm based in England (GMT time/winter, GMT + 1h/summer), which might delay my response time.
One of our best tutors! High-quality profile, qualifications verified and response guaranteed. Caroline will plan your first lesson with care.
I’m passionate about writing, whether it is poems, short stories or novels. I specialize in literary/general fiction and love nothing more than developing the psychology of my characters, crafting the plot as I write, yet letting the story, at times, take me by surprise. I’ve been writing literary fiction since 2008, taking part-time jobs so I could fully embrace my vocation. I have written two novels in English and two in French.
I teach creative writing on a freelance basis, which includes mentoring fellow authors, six-week courses with Cambridge Community Arts (CCA) and leading workshops with the Workers’ Educational Association (WEA). I am also running bi-monthly workshops in central Cambridge. I have created an online writing course: From Idea to Story: Novel Writing Made Easy on Udemy. I'm currently leading creative writing workshops at Scott's in central Cambridge.
Caroline was a great tutor who really helped improve my French grammar and conversation. Very reliable and highly recommended.
Caroline makes conversational French accessible. The way that she teaches French equips you with the tools you need to get talking almost immediately! Her teaching also gives you a good big-picture sense of the French language, and the rules that govern it, which makes self study easier. I would highly recommend her as a French tutor.
Caroline is a truly engaging tutor. Her love for languages and teaching is clearly evident with her enthusiastic and fun method of delivery. After a few failed attempts to learn french since school, she gave me the confidence and belief that I could succeed. Unlike previous tutors, this was not just a job for her but a vocation! She always is quick to help and respond outside class. Inspirational!
I was part of a small group Caroline tutored in French earlier this year. Caroline has a great focus on getting people talking in French and gaining confidence in the language. Her knowledge of teaching and supporting learners is her greatest attribute. Great empathy with students - highly recommended.
Caroline is an excellent teacher. In my experience, she cares about my future in studying French at university.
She’s passionate at boosting confidence when needed. Also, she helps improve any weakness whether it be grammar or simply poor organisation skills. She is always chatty and welcoming.
I've been learning French with Caroline for over a year now and can definitely say she is a superb tutor, who does her best to tailor the sessions to her student's needs. Extremely intelligent, so you'll never run out of topics to discuss.
Caroline has helped me progress so much through the last year: she is patient and very good at explaining ideas and concepts that I find difficult in a way that makes them much more accessible to me. I always feel comfortable and supported in her lessons and would highly recommend her as a teacher.
Caroline is a wonderful teacher. I really feel that she works hard to understand me as an individual, how I learn and how to challenge me in a productive way. Lessons are fun and she is an interesting and warm person, who really understands how to teach languages. I would definitely recommend her.
I know Caroline from the Cambridge Community Arts Creative Writing course she was teaching.
Caroline is an extremely encouraging, supportive tutor who really helped me feel inspired and nurtured my creativity.
I would definitely recommend Caroline to help bring out that inner creative in you!
I met Caroline a week and a half before my French A-level oral exam, and she completely built up my confidence and inspired me to really want to learn the language and keep on learning it. I learnt so much in such a short amount of time, I wish she could be my tutor for ever THANK YOU Caroline! Thea xxx
