About the lesson

Over the past year I have been working as a music and boarding assistant in residence at Malvern St James Girls school, helping teach music lessons as well as helping in the boarding houses to look after the children. This has given me the experience creating workshops and fun activities for after school clubs and the boarding environment as well as giving me experience with the marketing side of things. I worked on the social media and promotion for the music department, creating content and getting it out to the audiences. I am a very proactive person who works hard to complete all tasks to the best of my ability. I fully understand the importance of bringing children up in the right way and the right environments. I believe that sensory activities at a young age is an extremely important part of that processes. Music is a big passion in my life and is something I always bring into a day’s activities with the current children that I look after. I have a bachelor degree in Music, Grade 8 in piano, I'm a singer and a self-taught guitar player. I have a very friendly and bubbly personality and I love to make sure that children are having fun and getting to see the best experience that life can bring. I'm patient and have a good initiative when it comes to problem solving.

About Greta

I started singing and playing piano when I was six years old, and soon entered a top music school in Lithuania located in the capital city Vilnius. While studying there for twelve years, I learnt some of the most valuable lessons about music from my teachers and classmates: the importance of the work ethic, and that only consistent practice will get you where you want to be. At the school I participated in various performances locally and abroad, which played an important role in my development towards a career as a professional musician. I was also a member of the school choir, which taught me the importance of working as a team. As part of my last conducting exam I had to conduct two choirs with different programs. That trained my leadership skills which proved to be useful in teaching and later conducting for the choir at St Machar’s Cathedral in Aberdeen. These skills even helped me in my first job at McDonalds, which required an ability to work within groups. Team work and team management is an important part of my current teaching work, which is largely focused on building relationships based on trust and respect.
In my senior year of high school, I started teaching in a private setting. That helped me realize how passionate I was about it and allowed me to gain independence from my parents. I am the eldest of seven children in my family, and I think that really taught me to accept challenge and responsibility. Continuing my private teaching during my university years helped me to become more confident when using my knowledge and understanding. I was also very happy doing something that was related to my degree alongside my part-time job, which I had to keep in order to support myself.
While studying in Aberdeen, I wanted to get involved in as many activities as I could, such as giving recitals, participating in master classes, being part of societies such as the University of Aberdeen Opera Society and the Choral Society. I took part in all major productions over the course of my degree and worked with world known conductors and composers such as Prof. Paul Mealor and Dr, James Jordan of Westminster.
