My teaching method uses books and exercises from either the ABRSM grade books or from the ‘Piano Adventures’ books. I strongly encourage regular practice and doing things for enjoyment as well as for academic advancement. My ultimate priority is ensuring you are enjoying learning the piano in a comfortable environment.
I am a professional musician, and graduate of Guildhall School of Music and Drama with over 9 years teaching experience of students aged between 4 and 80. I am experienced in both examination preparation or creating lessons for pure enjoyment. I am qualified with both DipABRSM(Piano) and DipABRSM(Clarinet) and am DBS checked. I am experienced also teaching children and adults with special needs.
I am a professional clarinettist and composer with over 9 years of instrumental and academic teaching experience with students aged between 4 and 80 years old, from complete beginner to post grade 8. I offer lessons in clarinet, piano, flute, saxophone and music theory.
My teaching style is very versatile: I am to meet each student’s needs in a caring and responsible way; whilst I encourage the majority of my students to do graded ABRSM exams, I am also more than happy teaching students who enjoy a less exam-oriented environment.
Raymond has been my son’s Clarinet tutor since two years ago.
As well as being a great musician, he is a very kind and patient teacher.
My son loves and enjoys his clarinet classes with Raymond.
I strongly recommend him.
Since beginning to learn the clarinet in January, 2020 and for the ensuing few months thereafter, Raymond has very much helped me learn the basics of playing the clarinet and I trust he is going to continue to do so.
He is very encouraging and supportive. He has encouraged good techniques and recommended alternative courses of action where things have not been so good.
Not only has he demonstrated very supportive teaching skills, but he has also taken an interest in little projects I have set myself including understanding the fingering of the Chromatic scale beginning with Low E, the Circle of the Fifths, Diminished Sevenths etc, and now, I am embarking on the Chalumeau, both Register and instrument.
In addition, he has included me in his own musical life, sharing with me his various compositions, the last of which is aptly named ‘Hope’.
And, much of this has been achieved online with the aid of tools such as Zoom and Whatsapp, supported occasionally by mini videos, where, for example, the fingering for a note needed further explanation, and of course, with the occasional email.
I’m a beginner, but I have no hesitation in recommending him as a clarinet teacher both in person and online.
