I give lessons to students ranging from beginner level all the way up until University level, or advanced learners. I am able to do this as I have ample experience with the language and consider myself fluent.
All of my lessons will be specific to the student, so they will vary. But a common trend is that I'll make every lesson varied to keep students engaged and interested in the learning. I also try to give wider learning, so if we are supposed to be covering a certain grammar point or topic I will of course cover this, but try to help the student learn more than just what they have to, often linked to things they're actually interested in, therefore further increasing engagement.
I'm a very outgoing, chilled out person so I feel I can get on with anyone. The goal is that my sessions will feel less like a class and more like a learning experience, with much more interaction between me and the student rather than me just talking at them the whole time, which no student enjoys.
A final year university student offering a personalised, affordable online learning experience with personality
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I personally teach Spanish, Maths, Economics and Chemistry at all levels. However, I also have other tutors who can teach other subjects, including Biology, History, French and English
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I am about to start my fourth and final year at Durham University, where I will graduate with a BA in Combined Honours (Economics and Spanish). Before this, at A Levels I achieved 4 A* grades in Spanish, Maths, Economics and Chemistry. At GCSE/IGCSE level I achieved 8 A* and 3 A grades, including the top grade in Additional Mathematics IGCSE.
- How much do you charge?
Before any official tutoring, you have a free 20 minute meeting with me to discuss what is needed and so that a relationship can start to be built with the student from the start. After this, we offer our first lesson at just £7, which does not have to be paid if you are not happy with the service and don't want to carry on beyond this point.
My company aims to keep costs low and affordable as we want to make tutoring accessible to more people across the country. For this reason, all of our lessons are priced at £15 an hour. There is also the option to have 30 minute lessons, which cost £8.
There are also discounts for booking several lessons in advance. If you want to book 5 lessons, this will cost £70 (saving of £5). If you book 10 lessons, this will cost you £130 (saving of £20). For 20 lessons, the cost will be £250 (saving of £50).
- Where do you teach?
All of our tutoring is done online, and we do not offer home tutoring at the moment
- When are you available?
I am available to start right away, and pretty much have full availability until the start of October. After this I will have to organise my times around my University timetable, which I don't yet have
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I am able to teach all ages from 5 years old up until 18. For Spanish I teach all levels, whether you have never learned any Spanish before or if you have a very good level, as I am fluent
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I have a lot of previous experience preparing students for GCSEs, IGCSEs, AS and A2 exams. I have no previous experience with entrance examinations or university admissions tests, but get in contact with me and I will see what I can do depending on the level
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
My lessons are all delivered using an interactive whiteboard website called Bitpaper, which allows both student and tutor to see the board at the same time, work on problems and at the end of each session you are able to download the content from the board as a PDF file, meaning students can use the lesson notes in their own time.
Alongside this, I usually use Zoom for the video function, but I am also able to use Skype or other applications on request
- Do you have a personal message for students?
If you are struggling with school as you feel that the way things are taught doesn't suit your way of learning, I want to help change this with personalised, wider learning just for you
I started studying Spanish when I was 13, achieving the top grade at IGCSE and then doing the same at A Level. I now study the language at Durham University, and have just finished my Year Abroad having spent the past 11 months in Barcelona, Colombia and Perú. This means I've got a very good educational background, plus the vital experience of living among native speakers for such a long period of time, meaning I can provide great help in all areas of learning a language.
I've now been a tutor for over a year and a half, and in that time I've given over 250 hours of lessons with many different students, in Spanish, Maths, Economics and Chemistry. I've seen great improvements in confidence in all of my students, and week after week I always see more engagement and interaction, showing their increased enjoyment of the subject.
- What kind of experience do you have?
I first began tutoring in December 2016, and since then have completed over 250 hours of tutoring, alongside my studies. The majority of my lessons have been in GCSE Maths and A Level Spanish, but I have also given several lessons in the other subjects that I teach.
I have studied Spanish for 8 years now, and have just got back from my Year Abroad, during which time I have lived in Barcelona (4 months), Bogotá (3 months) and Lima (2 months). This means I have a good grounding with Spanish grammar and the technical parts of the language, but I also have the experience of living with native speakers which means my speaking and understanding is also at the top level
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Yes, I have an Enhanced DBS Certificate
- Tell me about some of your current students.
As I have been away without suitable WiFi, these last couple of months I was unable to tutor. However, before this I was doing a lot of tutoring, with most of my students being at GCSE level. The students I've had have been a big mix, but I feel that a common trend is that I see them come out of their shell as the weeks go on and the sessions quickly become a very enjoyable experience. I am a very outgoing person, and try to make the sessions as enjoyable as possible for every student
