I always make sure I know the aims of the students I work with and how they learn best. From there, I am able to construct lessons individually tailored to their needs and strengths! Each lesson usually begins with an introduction on a certain subject (e.g. verbs, greeting, feminine and masculine, etc.), then progresses to interactive exercises so we can begin to apply what we have learnt in the session. I believe that practising conversations is one of the best ways to learn and I always try to integrate them for at least 20 minutes per hour. For a complete beginner all the way to expert, I can help someone progress in the most interactive and efficient way!
When I work with children, I believe that positive reinforcement is the best method (showing them with enthusiasm that they’re doing well to build self-confidence, using stickers for those who like them, talking about their achievements and improvements, etc.). I also always adjust to the needs of the child. Since they are all different, they also learn with different methods. For that reason, I listen and observe and then try my best to help, modelling my methods to the child. Being an enthusiastic person in general, I also bring a bit of fun and humour at the appropriate time.
I am originally from Québec in Canada and am fluent in both English and French. French is my mother tongue and I have completed all my years at school and university in the language. This, coupled with my teaching experience in English, gives me great confidence in my ability to provide excellent French tuition for all ages and abilities.
I have more than 300 hours tutoring experience, teaching French to grown ups, as well as English, Maths and science to KS1 and 2.
I have comprehensive experience as a lead teacher for Key Stages 1 & 2 at an academy that provided children with supplementary education. I was tutoring them on a variety of subjects including Maths and English, providing them resources corresponding to their needs and helping them with their school homework. When I lived in Québec, I was working as a tutor, helping children of Year 3 to progress in school through supplementary education and homework help (Predominantly covering French, Maths and Science). During my time in Québec, I also taught in a primary school, with classes in Reception and Year 5. In addition to my teaching, I have more than 5 years experience as a nanny, making me extremely comfortable caring for children.
I also have more than 2 years experience tutoring French 1-to-1 with grown ups! I love meeting new people and helping them progress and learn something new! I always make sure I know the aims of the students I work with and how they learn best.
I'm an outgoing, open-minded person, with a good sense of humour, an enthusiastic personality and a passion for working with children and helping their progression. I also pride myself on my hard work and dedication.
I am currently studying psychology as part of my degree, after my first certificate in Social Sciences. This included two internships in elementary schools for a total of 6 months. After I graduated from high school, I also studied for 3 years for a college diploma in the humanities, specialising in education. Therefore, I am confident in my knowledge regarding child development and education.
